With bubur lambuk to break fast

Posted: 20 Aug 2011 06:46 AM PDT

NUSAJAYA: Apart from dates, bubur lambuk is another must-have item at Muslim households when it comes to breaking of fast during Ramadan.

Bubur lambuk only make its appearance during the holy month of Ramadan and can be bought at food bazaars around the country.

There is actually no standard recipe in preparing the dish as each state in the country has its own specialty and the Johor's version probably differs from the type served in Selangor or Penang.

The normal ingredients that go into making the dish include potatoes, meat, vegetable, spices, groundnuts, rice, fried shallots, parsley, coconut milk and rice.

However, other cooks might opt for ingredients such as dried shrimps, prawns, crabs, cashew nuts, almonds, baby corns and chicken meat.

"But one thing is common as we have to spend many hours in preparing the porridge,'' UEM Land Holdings Bhd corporate communication Nik Surina Suria Nik Abdullah told The Star.

She said this while preparing three big cauldrons of bubur lambuk to be distributed to the company's employees and local communities from nearby areas and passing motorists.

More than 90 UEM Land employees volunteered in the event which started from 9am and by 2pm had they packed bubur lambuk into 1,500 containers.

Later in the evening, 180 less fortunate people comprising single mothers, orphans and the disabled from four villages around Gelang Patah received Hari Raya goodies from the company.

Each of them received RM130 duit Raya and a goody bag worth RM75 containing among others 10kg rice, two litre of cooking oil, two kg wheat flour and two kg sugar.
