The world not coming to a cataclysmic end on Dec 21 is as good a reason as any to party in 2013. Here's what's in store for the new year, music-wise.

IT looks like music fans will get their fill of live music next year as several international acts have been confirmed to perform in showcases, concerts and festivals in Malaysia.

At the moment, the one event that boasts a big line-up is Future Music Asia 2013, which had its inaugural show this year in March.

The second edition is set to include acts like Bloc Party, Armin Van Buuren, The Prodigy, Rita Ora, Fun and Temper Trap, as well as South Korean rapper Psy.

The Australian-based festival will be held on March 15 and 16 at the Sepang International Circuit in Selangor.

Also set to be big next year is Rockaway Fest, which plans to hype up its main event – which will most probably be held in the final quarter of 2013 – by organising a string of showcases within the Klang Valley.

First up on the list is Paramore, set to play at the Bukit Kiara Indoor Arena in Kuala Lumpur on Feb 17.

The band last played in Malaysia in 2010 at the Bukit Jalil National Sports Complex.

Another musical event that's coming to our shores is the two-day dance/pop festival We Love Asia, organised by 2Spicy Entertainment.

The festival begins on Jan 19 and will be held at the Sepang International Circuit. Among the featured international acts are Redfoo of LMFAO fame and his Party Rock Crew, Taio Cruz, DJ Antoine, DJ Steve Aoki and Yolanda Be Cool.

January is going to be an exciting month for dance music as Swedish House Mafia, one of today's biggest dance acts, will be stopping by Malaysia for a one-night only show on Jan 18.

To be held at the Sunway Lagoon Surf Beach in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, the concert is part of the group's One Last Tour, which, as the name suggests, will mark Swedish House Mafia's retirement from the music industry.

Meanwhile, the Upfront series, created by Klang Valley's restaurant-cum-show venue The Bee, is set to bring in numerous international indie acts in the next 12 months. British instrumental post-rock band 65daysofstatic will kick off the Upfront 2013 series with a show on Jan 8.

At the same time, British indie band The Vaccines has signed on to make an appearance sometime in January.

Canadian singer Grimes (aka Claire Boucher), whose third album Visions made a splash with the critics this year, is also set to play in the Upfront series.

Chinese music fans will be delighted to know that Hong Kong veteran singer George Lam, 65, is also coming to Malaysia in January.

The concert, which will be held on Jan 11 at the Arena of Stars in Genting Highlands, kicks off his new world tour. His concert is to be followed by that of another legend in the Hong Kong music scene, Sandy Lam.

Sandy's two-night concert will be held at the Penang International Sports Arena on Jan 12 and Jan 13.

On the local front, award-winning singer Anuar Zain is set to play at the Putra Stadium, Bukit Jalil National Sports Complex on Feb 16.

The concert is expected to attract Anuar's fans from all over South-East Asia.
