Rolling Stone Wood weds for third time

Posted: 21 Dec 2012 08:34 PM PST

LONDON: The Rolling Stones' guitarist Ronnie Wood has married his girlfriend of eight months, a theatre producer 31 years his junior, newspapers said Saturday.

Wood, 65, married 34-year-old Sally Humphreys at London's Dorchester Hotel, in a low-key ceremony Friday attended by best man Rod Stewart, plus Paul McCartney.

"I'm feeling great," The Sun quoted Wood as saying.

Pictures showed Humphreys in a white wedding dress with Wood dressed in a dark suit and tie with pink socks, a packet of cigarettes in his hand.

"It was excellent, so great. Brilliant," he said.

The Daily Mirror quoted Humphreys as saying: "I'm really excited. And for anyone interested, I'm wearing my mum's wedding dress."

In its editorial, The Sun said: "The old rocker may need all his famous energy. At 34, his bride is half his age. Let's hope she shows some sympathy for the old devil."

Wood, who has played with the Stones since 1975 and has publicly battled against drug and alcohol addiction, left his second wife Jo in 2008 for a 21-year-old former cocktail waitress, Ekaterina Ivanova.

His divorce from Jo, his wife for more than 20 years and the mother of two of his children, was finalised last year.

He had previously been married to Krissy Findlay, with whom he had a son, from 1971 to 1978.

Jo Wood's memoirs, due to be released in February, are set to shed light on her life as a Rolling Stone's spouse.

The band are celebrating a half-century in rock and roll this year and have played celebratory concerts in London and New York. -AFP

Psy's "Gangnam Style" makes YouTube history with 1 billion views

Posted: 21 Dec 2012 05:54 PM PST

LOS ANGELES - South Korean rapper Psy's infectious viral hit song, "Gangnam Style," made history on Friday as the first ever video on YouTube to reach 1 billion views, adding yet another record to the song's juggernaut journey into mainstream pop.

The song, first posted on YouTube on July 15, clocked the 1 billion milestone at 10:50 a.m. EST (1550 GMT) and YouTube marked the occasion with a dancing Psy doodle next to their logo.

The song also became YouTube's most watched video last month, overtaking Justin Bieber's "Baby" video, which previously held the title.

"I didn't even imagine 'Gangnam Style' would get 1 million views, let alone 1 billion views! Is this the Tru-PSY show?" the rapper said in a statement.

This has been a whirlwind year for rapper Psy, 34, who is the first Korean pop (or K-pop) artist to achieve mainstream success in the U.S. after "Gangnam Style," named after the affluent Gangnam District in Seoul, captured viewers' attention.

The rapper recently performed for President Barack Obama, met with U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and won the best video award at the MTV Europe Music Awards in November.

The video shows the outlandishly dressed Psy rap in Korean while performing an invisible horse-riding dance, which has become a pop culture trend, spurring many copycat and parody videos.

The popularity of the song has sparked growing international interest in Asian pop music, throwing a spotlight on the K-pop industry, which now aims to follow Psy into mainstream Western pop music. - Reuters

Singer Travis pleads not guilty to assault

Posted: 21 Dec 2012 04:51 PM PST

SAN ANTONIO: Country singer Randy Travis pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor assault in a municipal courtroom in the Dallas suburb of Plano on Friday, his lawyer said.

Lawyer Peter A. Schulte told Reuters his client is "absolutely not guilty of this crime."

Police say Travis assaulted a man in a church parking lot in Plano in August while attempting to intervene in a disagreement between a woman he was with and the woman's estranged husband.

"He was actually being a good Samaritan at the time, stepping in to save two women from being assaulted," Schulte said. He said the woman Travis was with and his daughter were being harassed by two men.

The charge against Travis carries a maximum $500 fine and no jail time. The case is set for trial March 11.

The altercation occurred during a bad stretch for the 53-year-old Grammy winner. Earlier in August, Travis was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving after he was found lying naked near his wrecked car along a north Texas highway. He also was accused of threatening to shoot and kill the troopers investigating the case, according to a police report.

The North Carolina-born country singer, known for hits such as "Forever and Ever, Amen," also was arrested in February for drunken driving while sitting in his car in the parking lot of another north Texas church.

Schulte said Travis has been doing well since the two August incidents. He said his client was upbeat as he left the courtroom Friday.

"He turned and wished everybody who was there a merry Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year," he said. -Reuters
