| Kelana Jaya MCA to speed up wait time for acute heart patients Posted: 27 Jun 2011 05:48 AM PDT Residents in the Kelana Jaya parliamentary constituency diagnosed with critical heart condition can now seek help for a faster treatment. Kelana Jaya MCA division is offering to help constituents having serious heart condition to undergo treatment or surgery within a shorter period. Kelana Jaya parliamentary liaison officer Ong Chong Swen said a source of hers had been in touch with the National Heart Institute (IJN) to offer this service to her constituents. "Heart attack and heart-related problems are common among urban people and it is no different here in Kelana Jaya and Subang Jaya where people lead stressful lives. "And very often, patients have to wait for a long time for their turn. This is why we are helping to arrange and speeden up the waiting list for acute cases," Ong told reporters at her office recently. Also present were Kelana Jaya MCA division secretary Gan Meng Foo, SK Datuk Onn Jaafar Parent-Teacher Association chairman Dr Abdul Razak Zainuddin and also its vice-chairman Jazman Shahar Abdollah. Ong said an operation procedure could cost between RM60,000 and RM80,000 which can be expensive for poor families. "For genuine cases we'll try and arrange for a more affordable sum," she said. She added that the IJN was not a government hospital but set up by the government and managed by an independent body. Ong said this was the first time her centre was offering such a service to Kelana Jaya residents. "However, we do not make arrangements for those who want to be examined or think they are suffering from heart problems," she said. Ong said her centre was also planning to open a dialysis centre for the poor "We have already discussed a possible collaboration with Mawar Renal, a charitable organisation for patients with kidney disease. "There is no dialysis centre to my knowledge in the Kelana Jaya parlimentary constituency and even if there is, it is likely to be privately-run. "This centre that we have in mind will cater for poor patients. "We are looking for two adjoining shoplots to set up the centre and we appeal to shopowners contact and aid us in our mission," said Ong. She added that she was not looking for any sponsorship or free rental unless the owners themselves offered their units for charity. "It is important to have the location near car parks. "A dialysis centre need not be in a busy area but has to be easily accessible by the people, be it in Kelana Jaya, Subang Jaya, Seri Setia or Sunway," she said. Ong also said there had been hardly any enquiries about the 1MCA Medical Foundation so far at her service centre. She said the fund was set up by the MCA headquarters late last year to provide financial support to the poor for treatment or medication cost of their illnesses. "It is open to all races and I urge more people to come forward to enquire. "Of course, there are certain eligibility criteria and approval is at the discretion of the MCA headquarters," she added.
