From heart-warming family dramas to adrenaline-pumping kungfu flicks, here's a rundown of the hottest shows on television this Lunar New Year.

WHAT'S Chinese New Year (CNY) without a set of new clothes, a fresh haircut, the not-to-be-missed reunion dinner, and the highly-anticipated angpow handouts?

Likewise, in TV land, a line-up of programmes including the likes of Jet Li's Once Upon A Time In China, Stephen Chow's Shaolin Soccer and, not to mention, those star-studded TVB anniversary concerts – all customary fare for the festivities.

This year, viewers can look forward to ringing in the Lunar New Year with a mix of both the classics and the latest productions from Hong Kong, China and around the region. Here's a guide on what shows to look forward to this CNY: CNY Eve

> Jolin Tsai Concert 2012 (AEC / Astro Ch 301, 2pm) – Catch Mandopop songbird Jolin Tsai's spectacular concert held in conjunction with the release of her 12th album, Muse. The Taiwanese diva sang to a crowd of 40,000 at Tainan, Taiwan.

> Rain: The Best 2011 Rain Asia Tour (AEC / Astro Ch 301, 3pm) – Watch K-pop sensation Rain perform for the last time during his farewell tour, before he enlists for military service.

> Gerbang Tahun Baru Cina (TV1, 4.05pm) – See how Chinese families prepare for the new year in this special documentary.

> TVB CNY Eve Special 2013 (Wah Lai Toi / Astro Ch 311, 8pm) – Catch the live broadcast of TVB artistes Nancy Sit, Liza Wong, Linda Chung and many more as they celebrate the new year in Hong Kong.

> Gok Cooks Chinese (BBC Lifestyle / HyppTV Ch 140, 8.25pm) – When famed English-Chinese fashion guru Gok Wan isn't dressing celebrities, he is cooking up some delicious Chinese dishes in this all-new cooking show.

> The Wedding Diary (8TV, 8.30pm) – Malaysian engineer, Daniel, wants to marry his Singaporean lover, Tina, but their cultural and class differences threaten to tear them apart. Starring Ah Niu and Elanne Kwong.

> CNY Countdown Gala 2013 (AEC / Astro Ch 301, 9pm) – Count down to the new year with live feeds of popular TV personalities at on-ground events in Kuala Lumpur, Melaka, Johor, Penang and Sarawak.

> Shaolin Soccer (TV2, 10.30pm) – This 2001 Stephen Chow box office hit has become a classic CNY movie. Chow plays the zealous kungfu master, Sing, who is determined to show the world the beauty of the Shaolin martial arts practice through soccer. Co-starring Vicki Zhao and Patrick Tse.

First Day

> JSG Best 10 Music Awards Presentation 2011 (TV2, 1pm) – Find out who nabbed the prestigious Most Popular Artiste and Gold Song Gold Award titles in this annual TVB award show.

> I Love Hong Kong 2012 (Wah Lai Toi / Astro Ch 311, 1.30pm & Ntv7, 3.30pm) – Featuring some of TVB's top artistes, such as Eric Tsang, Bosco Wong and Stanley Fung, this family drama chronicles the ups and downs of four couples living in Hong Kong.

> The Iron Lady Chef (8TV, 2pm) – Up against a renowned chef, Ceci must sharpen her culinary skills in order to win the man of her dreams. Starring Charmaine Sheh and Hacken Lee.

> 2013 Horoscope And Feng Shui (TV2, 4pm) – It's the year of the Snake. Host Chen Shih Ying talks to experts on what the Chinese zodiac sign means as well as what to expect and avoid for the year. Plus, guest artistes Jan Hor, Meng Sishi, Chong Shun Yuan and Kok Kim Wei are slated to perform.

> Double Trouble (AEC / Astro Ch 301, 8pm) – Watch the son of kungfu flick veteran Jackie Chan, Jaycee, as he helms this 2012 Taiwanese comedy-action movie. He plays a hotshot security guard who gets the blame when a 400-year-old painting is stolen. Co-starring Jessica C and Yu Xia.

> Lucky Bowl (Ntv7, 8.30pm) – Shot in Tanjung Karang, a paddy-growing town in the outskirts of Selangor, this two-part mystical drama revolves around a magical bowl where anything that goes into it multiplies. Catch the second part of this local movie the following day at 8.30pm. Starring Adrian Tan, Karena Teo, Leslie Chai and Debbie Goh.

> Hunan CNY Show 2013 (HyppTV Ch 156, 9pm) – Catch appearances by two-time Olympic champion Lin Dan and Taiwan-based Malaysian songbird Fish Leong in this CNY variety show.

> Ah Beng The Movie: Three Wishes (Wah Lai Toi, Astro Ch 311, 10pm) – Ah Beng's father is rewarded for his loyalty when he offers all his money to the God Of Fortune despite being poor. In return, the deity grants him three wishes. The local production stars Jack Lim and Gan Mei Yan.

> Legend Of The Fist: The Return Of Chen Zhen (TV3, 10pm) – Donnie Yen has some big shoes to fill in this sequel to the 1994 film Fist Of Legend. He stars as the fictional martial artist Chen Zhen, a character previously portrayed by Bruce Lee and Jet Li.

> Ah Loon Oii (TV1, 10.05pm) – This local production revolves around the childish 24-year-old Ah Loon, who always stirs up trouble for his guardian Kak Kiah. Starring Sindu Ramachandran, Muhammad Izz, Liham Nazuadi, Rama and Sharisa Chong.

> Rob B Hood (TV2, 10.30pm) – Jackie Chan, Louis Koo and Michael Hui play a gang of burglars – comprising Thongs, Octopus and Landlord – that is tasked by a triad to kidnap a baby in this 2006 action-comedy flick. But along the way, the robbers start to bond with the tiny tot and refuse to hand him over to the triad's boss.

> Gong Xie Fa Chai Jun Yee (TV1, 2am) – Jun Yee is a stubborn girl who gives her parents a hard time as she constantly ignores their counsel. Starring Min Jia and Jason Chong.

Second Day

> I'm The Best (TV2, 4pm) – Join hosts Janell Chin and Soo Jin Chuan as they test some of the country's hottest local artistes on their knowledge of CNY traditions in this entertaining and informative game show.

> Red vs White Superstar Showdown 2012 (8TV, 4pm) – It's going to be a musical showdown as some of Taiwan's hottest singers are divided into two groups – Red (led by Chang Hsiao Yen) and White (led by Harlem Yu) – and made to out-sing each other. Catch the second part of the four-hour show at the same time the following day.

> TVB 45th Anniversary Gala (Wah Lai Toi / Astro Ch 311, 4pm) – There's nothing like watching your favourite TVB celebrities like Moses Chan, Bosco Wong, Kate Tsui and Linda Chung show off their hilarious and silly antics during the game segment as they celebrate the broadcaster's 45th anniversary.

> 1911 (AEC / Astro Ch 301, 8pm) – This historical drama brings to life the 1911 Revolution (a revolution that overthrew China's last imperial dynasty) and is all the more special as it is Jackie Chan's 100th film.

> Warriors Of Heaven And Earth (TV2, 9pm) – After serving the Chinese emperor for 20 years as a Japanese emissary, Lai Xi must carry out one final task before he retires – hunt down Lieutenant Li, a rebel who once betrayed the emperor. However, Lai is faced with a dilemma when he realises that Li is only looking to protect a caravan that holds a powerful, magical relic. Starring Jiang Wen, Kiichi Nakai and Vicki Zhao.

> 14 Blades (TV3, 10pm) – A secret agent, who devoted his life to the service of the Emperor, finds his loyalty tested when an evil eunuch takes over the empire. Starring Donnie Yen and Vicki Zhao.

> The Lost Bladesman (8TV, 10pm) – Yes, it's another Donnie Yen movie, yet again. This time, the actor portrays Guan Yu, a general who played a significant role in the fall of the Han Dynasty.

> Turning Point, Laughing Gor Returns (Wah Lai Toi / Astro Ch 311, 10pm) – Laughing is sentenced to life imprisonment but later discovers that he was set up as an undercover prisoner to track corrupt cop Tai Chit. Michael Tse and Chapman To star.

Third Day

> Telling Maria (Wah Lai Toi / Astro Ch 311, 12.30pm) – Host Luisa Maria speaks to big-name actors like Andy Lau and Simon Yam about their careers in the entertainment industry in this revealing talk show.

> Legend Of A Rabbit (8TV, 2pm) – For those who can't get enough of Jack Black's Kungfu Panda, this 2011 Chinese animated film is just for you, chronicling the adventures of a rabbit who embarks on a dangerous mission to save a friend.

> Flirting Scholar 2 (8TV, 8.30pm) – Tong Pak Fu falls for the bewitching Qian Qian, but their love is tested when she loses her memory in a tragic accident. Starring Huang Xiao Ming and Jingchu Zhang.

> The Great Magician (Wah Lai Toi / Astro Ch 311, 10pm) – A warlord hires a magician to help him gain the affections of a girl held in captive. But things are far from smooth sailing when they find out that the girl was once the fiance of another magician. Starring Lau Ching Wan and Tony Leung.
