| Posted: 11 May 2013 03:34 AM PDT Heavy rain and flash floods didn't stop fans from having a raving good time at the Show Lo concert. We've heard of concert venues filling up with fans hours before showtime. But, nothing prepared us for what happened at the Show Lo concert at Arena Of Stars in Genting Highlands last Friday – heavy downpour had left some fans stranded on their way up the hilltop resort while flash floods damaged some equipment, resulting in an hour's delay. Having already staged his Over The Limit World Tour in Taipei (Taiwan), Hong Kong, Singapore and Shanghai (China), Lo remained as cool as the weather in Genting. He even joked that his crew members had to swim into the concert venue through chest-high flood waters to get things going. Still, the show must go on. When the lights went off, the only thing brighter than the neon pink stars that fans were waving was Lo's ultra-glitzy mirrored suits. Dubbed "Asia's Dance King" by the Taiwanese media for his nifty footwork and slick dance hits, Lo kicked off the Malaysian leg of his tour with a quick succession of his uptempo numbers like You Wo Zai (Count On Me), Only U, and Wu Ji Xian (Over The Limit). Lo, 33, easily charmed fans by declaring his affection in Bahasa Malaysia – "aku cinta padamu!" – and even stopped to pose for a "selfie" (taking a picture of oneself) on stage with thousands of cheering fans behind him. Fans sang along to his medley of easy-listening Mandopop tunes like Gao Xiao (Making Jokes), Ai Ru Fei Fei (Love In Fantasy), Wo Bu Hui Chang Ge (I Don't Know How To Sing), and Xi Guan Jiu Hao (I'll Get Used To It). Die-hard Show Lo fans like Wendy Law and Halvir even prepared numerous colourful "We heart Show" banners and went around briefing everyone to hold them up during the encore, when fans chanted the singer's name (Lo Zhi Xiang). After strutting his stuff on stage with cool dance moves, Lo had a field day revealing his wacky side by clowning around during the second half of the show, just like his fun persona in Yu Le Bai Fen Bai (100% Entertainment), the entertainment variety programme he has been hosting in Taiwan since 2003. Lo, who was cast in a hilarious role as a martial arts expert with a delicate constitution in Stephen Chow's rollicking fantasy adventure Journey To The West (2013), had the audience in stitches especially with a bizarre episode involving Gong Linna's wildly quirky wordless viral hit Tan Te (Disturbed) – think Hong Kong comedian Chapman To's side-splitting cover in All's Well Ends Well 2011. This ended with a light-hearted version of his banana act. Whether he was goofing around or dancing up a storm or serenading his fans, Lo looked good doing whatever he did. With nine Mandarin albums and three Japanese releases to his name, Lo said that many pop stars have fans who continue to support them through the decades, and then wished for the same with fans who will "still be with me till we are 60". |
