Dinner invitations to Chinese communities in Raub to strengthen rapport with party

Posted: 22 Feb 2013 07:11 PM PST

RAUB: The state government has approved an allocation to hold dinner gatherings with residents in Chinese new villages here.

Raub MCA division chairman Datuk Seri Lam Kam Sang said the objective of the gatherings was to foster closer ties and rapport with the people.

"Recently, Pahang executive councillor Datuk Hoh Khai Mun brought up the suggestion to Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob who responded favourably.

"An invitation would be extended to two representatives from every households and if more wanted to attend, they are also welcome," he said after chairing a meeting with division leaders here.

Lam said besides serving Chinese dishes and cultural performances, there would be lucky draws.

He urged the people to accept the invitation and seize the opportunity to meet up with party leaders.

Meanwhile, Hoh said residents could voice their problems and bring up any issues to their attention.

He said at the same time, certain government policies would be explained to the people so that they would be aware of the development.

"We do not want them to be influenced by Opposition leaders who may mislead them to gain political mileage.

"The people must get a clearer picture of the actual situation so that they can make a wise and informed decision," he said.

The gatherings will be held in stages in new villages such as Tras, Sungai Chetang, Sungai Lui, Sempalit, Bandar Raub, Bukit Koman, Sungai Kenung and Laluan Lapan.

Voters urged to think wisely of the future in coming polls

RAUB: The public should not be emotional while casting their votes in the coming general election, MCA vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen said.

Dr Ng said voters should think wisely before giving their votes to the Opposition parties.

"I urge the people to ponder and think of the future of the younger generation and the country before entering the polling station.

"Under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, much have been done for the people and various initiatives and transformation programmes launched.

"The people should vote for political stability so that the country can continue to reap benefits in terms of development and economic growth," she said during a Chinese New Year gathering with residents in Kampung Tras near here.

Also present were Raub MCA division chairman Datuk Seri Lam Kam Sang, Bilut assemblyman Datuk Hoh Khai Mun and Pahang MCA Wanita chief Senator Datuk Lim Nget Yoon.

Dr Ng, who is also the Tourism Minister and Raub MP, took a swipe at some quarters who labelled Barisan Nasional as having done nothing good.

She said in their opinion, every single thing that Barisan had done for the people was wrong and not beneficial.

"However, when it comes to Opposition parties particularly the DAP, even if the party was at fault, no one seems to come out to criticise it.

"The Government is not 100% right but neither was it wrong all the time," she said.

Dr Ng said for the coming elections, the party would work hard to regain the Tras state seat from DAP.

Meanwhile, Lam admitted that MCA was facing a very big challenge during the coming polls.

"I hope the people would not listen to calls for a change in the Government.

"Do not gamble the future of the country as five years are a very long period to bank on a loose coalition with their own ideologies," he said.

Fewer Mara loan defaulters recorded

Posted: 22 Feb 2013 07:01 PM PST

RAUB: The number of Mara loan defaulters has dropped significantly over the years, Mara chairman Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh said.

Idris said gone were the days when many of the borrowers could not repay their loans to the agency.

"Now, there are very few cases and most if not all, are able to service the loan periodically after securing the loan to start a small business.

"Due to this, we have introduced a new loan called SPiKE (Skim Pembiayaan Kontrak Express) in which approval can be granted in just three days," he said after a dialogue with Raub Umno division leaders here.

Also present was division chief Datuk Shahiruddin Ab Moin, who is also the Dong assemblyman and GiatMara chairman.

Idris said as of last year, the number of borrowers in Pahang stood at 675 amounting to RM58mil.

He said the figure exceeded its target by 43% and had assisted to achieve its main objective to get more Bumiputras to participate in business.

"Besides offering them loans, they also needed other forms of assistance such as training and trading lots. So far, a total of 3,635 recipients have been given training and 525 of them offered trading lots," he said, adding that of the total, 106 of them were from the Raub district with approved loans amounting to over RM1mil.

Earlier in his speech, Idris said the country had achieved an economic growth of 5.3% last year as compared to negative growth in many European countries. Citing Ireland as an example, he said the country saw a salary cut of 30% but in Malaysia, civil servants enjoyed a pay rise of between 7% and 13%.

"Although there are some weaknesses and shortcomings, the people should give the Government a mandate to rectify the situation," he said.

On party matters, Idris urged all members to ensure its machinery and operations room to be fully prepared to take on the Opposition parties. He said although it was not wrong to lobby as a candidate, all should abide with the decision of the central leadership.

"We must go to the ground and work harder to secure a higher majority. Nothing is impossible if we work together as a team in line with the Blue Wave strategy," he said, citing another example in which Barisan Nasional regained Terengganu state government in 2004 after it fell to PAS in 1999.
