Security check on Hulu Selangor RTs to see to needs Posted: 19 Feb 2013 04:03 AM PST HULU Selangor MP P. Kamalanathan has been visiting all the Rukun Tetangga (RT) volunteer patrol schemes (SRS) in the district since early January. He said the visits were to find out more about the current security and safety situation in the various areas as well as the crime rates. "I want to use a more creative approach to meet with the residents who are on night duties guarding their respective residential areas. "We have visited the RT leaders and have taken note of the residents' requests to repair and upgrade public facilities," he said during a visit to the Teratai Apartment SRS in Taman Bunga Raya, Bukit Beruntung. Teratai Apartment RT chairman Muhd Isa Lubis and Hulu Selangor National Key Results Area (NKRA) residential and village infrastructure chairman Harumaini Omar were also present during the visit. Muhd Isa said the residents were grateful to Kamalanathan for visiting and showing concern for the safety in the area. "It is important for the MP to know about the security status of the area and we hope that the programme will continue in future. "This approach can unite the residents of different ethnicities in the area," he said. Kamalanathan had previously visited Kampung Koskan in Sungai Choh and Taman Kembojasari and Taman Mawarsari in Bandar Sungai Buaya. After the visit to the Teratai Apartment, Kamalanathan also visited Sungai Choh and Kuala Kubu Baru, |
Streetlights out in Puchong Jaya Posted: 19 Feb 2013 04:02 AM PST RESIDENTS in Bandar Puchong Jaya, Puchong have been driving in the dark as many streetlights along Jalan Bandar Puchong Jaya have not been working for the past few months. The faulty streetlights leave road users vulnerable to crime as the darkness made it a good place for robbers and snatch thieves to lie in wait. Selangor Policing Group member Melville Jayathisa said a woman was almost robbed last month when she was walking by the roadside. "However, she managed to get away as she clung to her bag but there was a bit of a struggle. The snatch thieves left her bleeding by the roadside," he said. He added that he had sent a complaint letter to the Subang Jaya Munical Council (MPSJ) in December, but no action had been taken yet. "MPSJ and other local authorities should have a troubleshooting team touring the areas under its jurisdiction so that issues like faulty streetlights can be dealt with quickly," Melville said. He added that the move should be done so that any inherent dangers could be minimised or removed altogether. "The women, especially, are at risk in these dark areas where criminals may lie in wait," he said. Student Yong Mei Foong, 21, said she avoided using the road at night for fear of robbers. "I used to walk to the restaurants nearby for dinner but now I try not to go out too late at night," she said. Selangor Policing Group coordinator Kuan Chee Heng said the streetlights were essential, as cri-minals would be hesitant to strike in a well-lit area. "MPSJ should take immediate action on this matter as the letter was sent months ago," he said. |
