Boost for oil and gas industry Posted: 02 Oct 2012 05:16 PM PDT JOHOR BARU: Mentri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman described the Budget 2013 as a responsible move that would spur the country's growth. One of the key announcement made by the Prime Minister, he added, was the 100% income tax exemption for a period of 10 years for companies interested in oil and gas industries in the country. Abdul Ghani added that such decision would create more opportunities for local oil and gas companies such as Petronas and their foreign partners to invest in the oil and gas sector. He also said that oil and gas sector has been identified as one of the important 12 National Key Result Areas by the Government. "The oil and gas sector is not something new in the country. It has contributed to 30% of the country's economy this year alone. "With the RM60bil Petronas refinery and petrochemical integrated development (Rapid) project and the Dialog Group Bhd's deepwater terminal development projects in Pengerang, the sector would continue to boom," he said. Abdul Ghani added that the 100% income tax exemption would encourage more investors coming in with good incentives for them. He said this during a press conference on Budget 2013 held at his official residence in Saujana. On another matter, Abdul Ghani added that the state government welcomed the Federal Government's decision to allocate RM1.9bil to build 123,000 affordable housing units next year. "Previously there was a huge demand for low income houses in the state with the price range between RM35,000 and RM40,000. "But the state has seen that demand for affordable houses of between RM80,000 and RM120,000 is on the rise which shows that many people under the initiatives introduced by the Government could afford it," he said. He added that the Budget 2013 would help the country to achieve its target of becoming a high-income nation by 2020. |
