Ladang Bukit Jalil Committee awaits reply from PM’s office on land issue Posted: 12 Sep 2012 04:29 AM PDT THE residents' action committee of Ladang Bukit Jalil today hand-delivered a letter to the Prime Minister's (PM) Department requesting for a reply over the recent meeting with Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on July 10 with regards to the land issue. The letter was received by Datuk Ravin Ponniah's, who is the Prime Minister's special officer, at about 10.45am. "It has been two months since the meeting and we have yet to receive any reply from the Prime Minister. The letter serves as a reminder and we will continue sending letters on the 10th of every month with a hope of receiving a positive feedback from him," K. Balakrishnan told a press conference at Ladang Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur. He added that a letter was also sent on Aug 1 but there was no response. He said a meeting was held with the residents on Sept 9 and they were going to the PM's Department again on Oct 10 at 10am. "We have been here for three generations and we are only asking for 1.6ha out of the 10.5ha of land currently available," said Balakrishnan, treasurer of Ladang Bukit Jalil Residents' Association, adding that during the meeting, Najib did mention that he did not want to set a precedent. A copy of an old housing scheme which was introduced by Najib's father and former Prime Minister Tun Abdul Razak called Estate Workers Revolving Fund for House Ownership in 1973 to help estate workers buy their dream homes, was given to Najib on that day. The Bukit Jalil workers had previously spent 30 hours camping outside the PM's office until they were granted an appointment with Najib. The residents later held up a banner voicing out "We want our rights". Their dream is to build 41 terrace houses which will be funded by their coorperative on the 1.6ha land. |
