Adele Singing James Bond Title Song for 'Skyfall'

Posted: 27 Sep 2012 08:42 PM PDT

LOS ANGELES: Adele and her brassy, jazzy vocals will help kick off the upcoming James Bond adventure, "Skyfall."

There have been previous reports of the British belter's involvement in the latest 007 adventure, but "Skyfall"s' producer MGM has remained mum about who will be providing the latest Bond anthem.

Roger Friedman, over atShowbiz 411, confirms, however, that Adele will be featured prominently on the "Skyfall" soundtrack. He also says he's heard the song, and that it's a show-stopper.

"It's an ominous, dramatic ballad, with lots of gorgeous horn flourishes peeking out through Adele's now trademark vocals," Friedman writes. "It's also fresh, new, and original."

He reveals that the song has a name, one that conveniently integrates the title of the movie. It has been christened "Let the Skyfall."

The lyrics include this chorus, "Let the sky fall/Let it crumble/We will stand tall/And face it all/together." Historically, Bond themes tend to be something of a mixed bag.

For every sensual masterpiece like Shirley Bassey's "Goldfinger" or Carly Simon's unforgettable "The Spy Who Loved Me" ballad, "Nobody Does It Better," there are atonal catastrophes.

The less said about Madonna's Dramamine-inducing "Die Another Day" theme, the better. How will Adele's song stack up? Bond fans will find out when the "Skyfall" soundtrack album hits stores on Nov. 6. -Reuters

Rapper Lil Wayne breaks Elvis Presley's Billboard record

Posted: 27 Sep 2012 08:38 PM PDT

LOS ANGELES: Rapper Little Wayne toppled Elvis Presley to become the new King of the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart on Thursday, with a total of 109 songs, Billboard said.

Wayne, who also celebrated his 30th birthday on Thursday, surpassed Presley's count of 108 entries in the Hot 100 singles chart between 1958 and 2003, as an artist on rapper Game's latest track "Celebration."

That track al so features Chris Brown, Tyga and Wiz Khalifa, entering the chart at No. 82 this week.

The rapper, nicknamed Weezy, released his debut studio album "Tha Block Is Hot" in 1999. He has steadily grown to become one of the top names in U.S. hip hop, with hit singles including "Right Above It" and "6 Foot 7 Foot."

Wayne ranked fifth on Billboard's list of top-earning musicians in 2011, with an estimated $23.1 million. Presley, the 'King' of rock'n'roll, held his title as the artist with the most Hot 100 singles for 45 years, with his single "Rubberneckin'" last appearing on the chart at No. 100 in 2003. His career predated the inception of the Billboard 100 chart, which started in 1958, so some of his most famous hits such as "Heartbreak Hotel" and "Hound Dog" never made it onto the chart.

Both Wayne and Presley were overtaken by the cast of Fox's hit musical television show "Glee," who have had a total of 204 entries in the Hot 100 to date. - Reuters

Laidback lads

Apart from singing, there is one other thing that members of British boy band The Wanted are good at – being funny.

Members of The wanted, which played its first full concert in Malaysia last week, seemed full of energy during this interview held less than 24 hours after their amazing performance.

The band, made up of Nathan Sykes, Max George, Jay McGuiness, Tom Parker and Siva Kaneswaran, was really friendly and easy-going, showing no signs of celebrity haughtiness. That's not all – with the boys' non-stop banter, it was a tough job getting them to be serious!

It was The Wanted's second visit to Malaysia – the band was here last year to promote its self-titled album – and the members seemed to enjoy their time here. "It feels amazing. Kuala Lumpur is beautiful and full of beautiful people," said Parker, in a raspy voice. "The place is just really, really nice."

McGuiness thinks that the concert this time around definitely evolved. "It's nice to feel that, because we leave and don't know if everything dissolves, grows or stays the same," he said. "And we came back and felt like it had grown."

Of course, it was mostly because of its growing fame in the United States, after the release of the singles Glad You Came and Chasing The Sun early this year.

"It's nice to have the fans out in full force and high spirits. And afterwards, the label took us to some Malaysian party, so it was a good experience," the 22-year-old McGuiness shared.

Formed in 2009 through mass auditions, the group was originally just Parker, Sykes and George, with McGuiness and Kaneswaran joining at a later stage. It has been three years since, and the bond between them is apparent.

But like any friendship, it was awkward in the beginning. "It's always strange when you first meet someone, but then you grow to like each other," said George, adding that they've become really close since they practically live in each other's pockets now.

The band has collaborated with several big names in the industry such as Taio Cruz and Ryan Tedder. "It's great. Taio Cruz is the most polite, gentleman singer. Ryan Tedder is a great, great songwriter and I had a great time with him. It was a very fun experience," said McGuiness, while Siva chuckled away in the background.

Siva – of Sri Lankan Tamil and Irish parentage – has an identical twin brother named Kumar. When asked whether Kumar gets jealous of his twin's fame, Siva smiled and said, "Sometimes. 'Good jealous' though. He gets spoiled with treats. He'd go 'Yes, it's me, I'm Siva!' and he gets free stuff. He enjoys it," shared Siva.

Sykes, 19, is known as the baby of the group. Not surprising, considering that he is the youngest member and has possibly the cutest baby face ever – which may explain his large fan base on Twitter.

"It feels good (to be the youngest) ... I think. You get terrorised a bit sometimes, but it's fine. It's kind of like the little brother role," said Sykes, laughing.

Sykes started singing when he was a child, and even got to kiss Britney Spears on live TV after winning a singing competition in 2003. The cheeky teen said, "It felt great and ... I felt like she was in love with me."

McGuiness went to a dance school and said that it was what helped him in the audition, because they had to dance as part of the process of coming together. "Siva was terrible in dancing, so I helped him out.

"But then, since we started a group, the record label really wanted us to dance and be more sleek, like a K-pop group, and we didn't know how to do that because it didn't come naturally to us," he said.

Well, the band can definitely forget about having to dance like a K-pop group, now that it has experienced the sweet smell of success. The Wanted has won a couple of awards in Britain in previous years.

Said McGuiness: "Honestly, I never thought we'd go so far. When we first started, I was just thinking that this was a fun job that I wanted to do, that pays the rent and the bills. I never realised how big it could get. But I'm grateful that we did.

"And we're going to get bigger, I'm pretty sure!"

Asked to describe its journey so far since the band's formation, George said, "It was a strange start, because our first single was number one without anyone really knowing who we were, and then all of a sudden everything changed – we're in the papers, we were followed everywhere, we had fans.

"And now since we broke the United States (music market) with Glad You Came, it has sort of gone worldwide. I think with the more music we bring out, we seem to get a bigger fan base which tells us that our music's pretty good, which is most important."

On what he likes most about touring, Parker – who said that he would be a "ghostbuster" if he was not in the band – shared: "I like seeing different types of fans. Like, different pictures of screaming fans. In Asia, the screams are all crazy!"

Certainly, none of them expected to see so many people liking them in Asia.

"We've seen them all on Twitter, but you can't really get to know how many there are. And there's such a big difference, compared to when we came here about a year ago. For us, it kind of tops off a great year," said Sykes.

He added: "It was similar in the US ... we just had a great time. The next time we come here, we'll see how it changes again. Hopefully, it'll be good!"

The Wanted is currently in the middle of writing its next album, which will be released sometime in March or April. Since the talented bunch co-wrote most of the tracks on its previous album, fans can expect more original songs coming their way. Said Siva: "The new songs on the album are amazing. Get ready for them. They are amazing."

Sykes chirped in: "We just haven't written them yet!"
