MALACCA: Community leaders from all races joined dozens of eager participants to prepare dodol, a local sweet, in bulk at the Mydin hypermarket here at the Malacca International Trade Center recently.

They portrayed the true 1Malaysia spirit in producing the delicacy through a gotong-royong initiative.

The hypermarket's manager S. Sreedran said the event was a annual programme to show appreciation to the local folks for their continuous support to the company.

"The event is aimed at fostering a harmonious relationship between the multi-racial community residing in Malacca," he said.

State Legislative Assembly speaker Datuk Othman Muhamad who attended the event, hoped other organisations in the state would also emulate Mydin to organise more multi-racial related events.

Four thousand packets of freshly made dodol were later distributed to customers and the public at the hypermarket.

Posted: 18 Aug 2011 06:28 PM PDT

KUALA TERENGGANU: Some 50 traffic policemen took time off from their work to receive a Ramadan treat courtesy of Hotel Permai Inn here.

The men were given food packages consisting of nasi briyani, chicken as well as bottled water an hour prior to breaking fast.

Permai Inn's general manager Azman Ali said the treat was the hotel's gesture of appreciation to the police who had sacrificed their time and effort during Ramadan.

"While we are enjoying the comfort of being under the shade, these traffic policemen have to brave the hot sun during Ramadan in the course of their work.

"This treat is our way of saluting them for their hard work," he said adding that, it was the first time the hotel had organised such an event.

Azman also hoped the food packages would supply the police personnel with the necessary motivation and strength to carry out their duties.

"Not that they need any motivation as they are very committed but we want to show them that we appreciate them," he said.

Kuala Terengganu OCPD Asst Comm Zamri Shamsuddin thanked the hotel for their kind gesture.

"We hoped such an event will enhance the cooperation between the police and the hotel.

"We see it as a smart partnership in helping and supporting each other," he said.
