Posted: 09 Jul 2011 05:08 AM PDT WOMEN should be aware of their bodies and breasts so that they would know when something is not right. "If you feel a lump or something that is not right, just go the doctor immediately. Never let a problem get worse," said breast cancer survivor Lucianna Jambari, 60. Jambari herself discovered a lump in her breast back in 1997 when she performed a self-breast examination. "My lymph nodes was not affected so I went for a lumpectomy and and then for chemotherapy," she said. Jambari was among about 20 women who attended the "Look Good Feel Better" workshop under Estee Lauder Companies Malaysia's Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign at The Pleasures Room, Centrepoint South, Mid Valley City. Each person was attended to by a Bobbi Brown make-up artiste who gave make-up tips as she applied make-up on the participants' faces. Clinique senior communications manager Yen Chong said the campaign was a collective effort of the brands under the Estee Lauder group, including Bobbi Brown, Lab Series for Men, La Mer, MAC and Origins. "How you look affects how you feel. Going through chemotherapy and radiotherapy is not a fun thing at all and we want to treat these cancer survivors with a day of fun. "Looking good can heighten one's self-esteem and morale and a positive mindset does wonders in the fight against the disease," said Chong. Another survivor Ranbir Kaur, 49, had to undergo a mastectomy of her left breast when she was diagnosed in 2000. "I had to go through eight sessions of chemotherapy and 25 sessions of radiotherapy. It takes a toll on your body and it is definitely not something that someone would want to go through," said Ranbir. She advised those who have to go through it to not be afraid to face it. "Just tell yourself that you will be able to make it. It is all in the mind and once you set your mind to it, you will go through it. After that, you just have to look forward and move on with your life," she said. Chong said there were other workshops and events in the pipeline, including the illuminating landmarks in bright pink lights. "We are doing this to raise awareness on the importance of breast health and early detection," said Chong. Full Feed Generated by Get Full RSS, sponsored by USA Best Price. |
