Zulfakar wins gross title on countback

Posted: 26 Jun 2011 06:31 PM PDT

A countback was needed to determine the winner of the gross category in the Cleveland-Srixon-CSSB Golf Open at the Tanjung Puteri Golf Resort in Johor recently.

Two participants — Zulfakar Jemaat and Nor Azmi Akob — returned with identical score of 75, but a countback favoured Zulfakar. However, both Zulfakar and Nor Azmi won a four day/three night golf package to the grand final in Thailand.

Chan Teng Chow, a 12 handicapper, collected 42 points to become the champion in the A Medal. In second place was Hamzah Haron on 40 points followed by Zainal Atan (39 points).

In the B Medal, Pirman Beddu collected 45 points to win by three points, P. Gopalakrishnan was second on 42 points while Mohd Azizan Saman was third with 39 points.

Lucky pick for Syed Zaki

Posted: 26 Jun 2011 06:31 PM PDT

SYED ZAKI was not among the winners in the Prudential Astro Masters golf championship at the Staffield Country Resort in Mantin, Negri Sembilan recently.

But luck was on his side when his scorecard was picked during the lucky draw at the prize-giving ceremony. He was presented with a Titoni watch.

In the A Medal, Marsidi Adnan became the champion with a gross score of 74.

Marsidi, a four handicapper, a regular in the competition, has earned the chance to play in the grand final in Phuket, Thailand.

Joining Marsidi, in Phuket, is S. Anpalagan, who won the nett category, on 68.

In the A Medal, the winner was Kam Chee Kong while Ibrisham Abdul Rahman and Yong Pen Nam were second and third respectively.

There was a close tussle for the top spot in the B Medal. Both Anuar Mat Sohor and Ibrahim Karim returned with identical 68.

However, Anuar got the nod because he had a lower handicap of 13 compared to Ibrahim's 15. Third was Azman Mutalib on 69.

Three participants Mahzan Yaacub, Ng Kih Yong and T. Ramesh ended with 68s in the C Medal and finished in that order.

Blogger crowned virtual racing king

Posted: 26 Jun 2011 06:30 PM PDT

PETRONAS Dagangan Berhad (PDB) recently crowned Paul Tan, founder and blogger of Paul Tan Automotive News, the Racing King of the Petronas Primax 95 Xtra Race at the appreciation party, which saw about 100 of Paul Tan's supporters joining in the fun and celebration along with race rivals celebrity Juliana Evans and Hitz FM DJ Ean.

The Petronas Primax 95 Xtra Race is a virtual race organised recently through Petronasbrands Facebook Fanpage. Starting May 3, fans were called to virtually 'fuel' their favourite racer with Primax 95 Xtra to the finish line. Fans who supported the winner throughout the race then stood a chance to be invited to the exclusive party.

"While we celebrate Paul Tan's victory, we also want to show our appreciation to our racers and fans who have supported the race. It is also through this platform that we hope to build the mindshare of Petronas Primax 95 Xtra with fellow car enthusiasts," said Retail Business Division senior general manager Izuddin Husaini.

"We are indeed delighted to be able to meet some of the fans in person this evening. PDB appreciates the fact that these fans are also Petronas ambassadors as they talk about their experience with friends and also provide us with valuable feedback on our products and services," he added.

Throughout the race, Paul Tan, Juliana and Ean took to Facebook, Twitter and Blogs to call for support. What started as a close competition soon saw Tan leading the race towards the end, thanks to his large group of 'motoring' fans who diligently 'pumped' his virtual car with Petronas Primax 95 Xtra. Tan triumphed with close to 500 while Juliana followed closely behind with 418 supporters.

Izuddin presented the winner's trophy to Tan and a token of appreciation consisting of Petronas Primax 95 Xtra merchandises, Petronas Gift Card and Formula One Touch n' Go card. Both Juliana and Ean were also presented with trophies and tokens of appreciation.
