District officer retires after three decades of service

Posted: 31 May 2011 02:20 AM PDT

PONTIAN: District officer Mohamad Karim is calling it a day after 33 years of service.

And as a personal reward, he will be taking his family for a vacation in Indonesia.

The 58-year-old said he was too busy with work during his tenure as Pontian's district officer and had little time to spare for sight-seeing.

"The first thing that comes to my mind to begin my retirement is to make up for loss time with my family and take them for a vacation to Batam, Indonesia.

"I have been with the district office and also Pontian district council (MDP) President for more than two years and have worked all over Johor except for Kluang and Mersing," he said.

Mohamad, who hails from Batu Pahat, added that following his retirement, the District Officer and MDP president posts would be held by two individuals.

"Muji Salimon will be the new DO and the MDP president's post will be handed over to Miswan Yunus from June 1," he said at the launch of the MySMS service and the Pontian Municipal Council's open day here recently.

He added that residents staying in the district could now forward any complaints or suggestions to their new MySMS service.

Mohamad said that the service was to provide convenience to the people where they get in touch with the council easily and quickly by sending their messages to 15888.

"The free MySMS service was also a medium to get feedback from the people in the form of suggestions, inquiries or even to express their satisfaction with the council's services.

"We hope to further improve on our services with the MySMS service and there is a team of personnel monitoring and replying the messages," he said.

He added that the five-day open day was an annual programme organised by the council to strengthen the ties between the council and the people staying in the area.
