Local artistes rally to help flood victims

Posted:

A group of homegrown artistes, including MonoloQue and Da Vagabonds, will take to the stage for flood benefit gig.

ALL it took was a few phone calls and a list of good friends in the music scene to throw their weight around the #DermaKilat fund-raising concert (in aid of the Pahang flood victioms) at the TM Convention Centre, Menara TM, Jalan Pantai Baru in Kuala Lumpur this Sunday.

MonoloQue main man loQue isn't somebody to take full credit for this spontaneous concert initiative, but he has his heart in the right place to see this charity project through.

Apart from MonoloQue, the #DermaKilat charity show also features indie rock outfits Go Gerila!, OAG, Da Vagabonds, rapper Altimet and pop singer Ana Raffali.

He approached each artiste and band earlier this week about getting involved in this show, and all of them agreed immediately to lend support.

"We wanted to contribute something different, contributing in the way we know best," says loQue.

"Though the amount we are collecting might not be a huge sum but we are planning to share the aspirations of sharing and giving. Apart from the main aim of delivering aid at a critical time, we also hope to inspire people to put aside any differences in their political views and to roll up their sleeves and help," he adds.

More acts (or guests) might be added to the line-up. All profits from the #DermaKilat show will be forwarded to the flood victims in Pahang through the Tengku Puan Pahang Foundation.

#DermaKilat starts at 5pm this Sunday at the TM Convention Centre in Kuala Lumpur. Entrance: A donation of RM20 will get one admission pass. For more concert and donation details, watch the #DermaKilat video on YouTube.

JJ Lin thrills Malaysian fans

Singer also performed a tribute to Michael Jackson in his recent concert.

JJ Lin's Malaysian fans showed up in full force to celebrate his 10th year in showbiz when he staged his JJ Lin Timeline World Tour Live in Malaysia 2013 at Bukit Jalil Putra Indoor Stadium in Kuala Lumpur last Saturday night.

The Singapore-born, Taiwan-based singer-songwriter, who has 10 Mandopop studio albums under his belt, staged his first solo concert here in Genting in 2006.

Lin again invited his buddy, the 34-year-old Kuching-born, Taiwan-based singer-songwriter Rynn Lim, to perform during the guest segment. Together, they delivered some thirty songs during the three-hour-long show.

Appearing as an angel with a guitar, Lin opened the show by rocking the house with a string of his upbeat hits such as Clash Of Souls, The Mummy, Three Kingdoms and Cao Cao.

In his Michael Jackson tribute segment, Lin performed Billie Jean in trademark MJ garb, complete with black fedora, white socks, red jacket and the iconic sequined white glove made famous during Jackson's 1984 Victory tour.

Highlights were aplenty, but the biggest splash was when Lin danced up a storm in a mini-pool and showed off his buff bod while belting out It's Me.

Serenading fans with songs like Afraid, Non-Existent Lover and Never Learn, Lin started to poke fun at his single status, while two of his buddies are getting married.

"While others are conducting their wedding, here I am conducting a concert. Others are already singing Forever Love (referring to Lee Hom's recent marriage), but I'm still here singing Never Learn," he joked.

His most popular ballads came into play when he sat at a grand piano and tinkled the ivories while fans joined him in a sing-along session with tunes like She Says, Remember and Love U U - a song he composed for Jingle Ma's 2011 romantic flick Love You You, which was shot entirely at Lang Tengah Island in Terengganu.

At the show, Malaysian fans were joined by Lin's supporters who came from Singapore, Taiwan, Japan, China, Hong Kong. Adoring fangirls held up placards with the Chinese words for hubby (lao gong). This heartfelt support moved Lin who said: "I don't need to get married, because I have you all."

When the multiple-award-winning musician signed off with 100 Years Later, fans crowded around the stage and screamed for an encore. Lin then bounced back onto the stage with You & Me, We Together, High Fashion, Flying On Your Wings and River South thrilling his fans.
