Posted: 02 Apr 2013 02:30 AM PDT Born in Penang and currently based in South Africa, Tan was recently awarded the prestigious Man Asian Literary Prize for his second novel, The Garden Of Evening Mists (2012), beating illustrious names like Orhan Pamuk and Jeet Thayil. The book was also shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize for fiction last year. His debut novel, the critically-acclaimed The Gift Of Rain (2007), was longlisted for the Man Booker Prize and has been translated into Italian, Spanish, Greek, Romanian, Czech and Serbian.
