Nasharudin: PAS has deviated from original struggle

Posted: 06 Feb 2013 09:00 AM PST

PETALING JAYA: Former PAS deputy president Nasharudin Mat Isa, who was sacked from the party's Syura Council last month, has alleged that there are certain groups causing the Islamist party to deviate from its original struggle.

"When they put political struggle as their main agenda, they are forced to put aside their faith (akidah).

"I think PAS has moved away from its original struggle, when it was first established in 1951.

"Current times demand that the party becomes less strict as they now have to accommodate the other parties," he told Media Prima director Datuk Ahmad Abdul Talib an in interview on TV3 late Wednesday.

He also refuted speculation that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak or any others had invited him to join other political parties.

It was reported that PAS spiritual adviser Datuk Seri Nik Aziz Nik Mat had said on Jan 30 that the Syura Council had decided to sack Nasharudin during its meeting on Jan 13 because the latter did not attend three consecutive meetings.

Nasharudin, however, is still a member of party.

PAS has so far ignored calls by various quarters to review its decision to sack Nasharudin from the council, as he was not given a chance to defend himself.

Nik Aziz announced Nasharudin's sacking soon after the latter returned to Malaysia after accompanying the Prime Minister on his historic visit to the conflict-ridden Gaza.
