| Beyonce to sing live at Super Bowl Posted: 31 Jan 2013 09:05 PM PST NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana: Beyonce vowed Thursday to sing live at her Super Bowl half-time show, confirming she sang along to a pre-recorded recording of the US national anthem at President Barack Obama's inauguration. The chart-topping pop diva kicked off a press conference in New Orleans ahead of Sunday's American football event by singing "The Star-Spangled Banner" a cappella after asking assembled reporters: "Would you guys mind standing?" Fielding questions afterwards, she declared: "I am absolutely going to sing live (on Sunday). I am well-rehearsed and absolutely singing live. This was what I was born to do." She also cleared the air about her January 21 performance at Obama's second-term inauguration in Washington that prompted allegations that she had lip-synched the words to the national anthem. "I always sing live," Beyonce said, but "this inauguration was unfortunately a time where I could not rehearse with the orchestra (the US Marine Band) because I was practicing for the Super Bowl - that was always the plan. "Typically they have you sing a pre-recorded track because anything could go wrong," she added, referring to organizers of the inaugural ceremony. "I did sing along with the pre-recorded track." Sunday's American football championship between the Baltimore Ravens and the San Francisco 49s is expected to draw nearly 180 million viewers, but the half-time typically pulls even higher ratings. Last week, CNN quoted an anonymous inaugural official as saying that Beyonce "did not sing live" and that she had arrived in Washington too late to properly rehearse with the Marine Band. - AFP |
| Guns N' Roses to rock Malaysian F1 Grand Prix 2013 Posted: 31 Jan 2013 08:21 PM PST The Axl Rose-led Guns N' Roses to rock Malaysian F1 Grand Prix 2013's post-race concert. IF there is one party to set your motor running, it is the Malaysian F1 Grand Prix 2013 post-race concert on March 24 in Sepang, Kuala Lumpur featuring legendary rock band Guns N' Roses. Formed in Los Angeles in 1985, Guns N' Roses, once regarded as the world's most dangerous rock 'n' roll band, will topline the post-race party at the circuit and make it a rocking 15th anniversary celebration for the Malaysian F1 Grand Prix. "This is the legendary band's first live show in Malaysia and fans can expect a bumper performance," said Datuk Razlan Razali, CEO of Sepang International Circuit (SIC). Back in 2009, British pop star Jamiroquai attracted 20,000 fans at the Malaysian F1 Grand Prix post-race concert. That attendance record, according to the (SIC) organisers, is set to be broken with Guns N' Roses. "Guns N' Roses is still a huge draw and we expect the masses to come to the race and stay on for the concert," he added. "The good news is the band will be playing a three-hour career-spanning set." The Grammy award-winning Guns N' Roses, which has sold more than 100 million albums worldwide, is best known for fiery rock classics and epic ballads like Welcome To The Jungle, Sweet Child O' Mine, Paradise City, Patience, Don't Cry, Estranged and November Rain. Unfortunately, a bitter band break-up has left its original members estranged. Guns N' Roses, now led by frontman Axl Rose (who turns 51 next Wednesday) has kept its major hits on the current tour playlist as well as 'newer' songs such as Chinese Democracy, Better and This I Love. Guns N' Roses last studio album was the delay-plagued Chinese Democracy in 2008. As the only original member left in the band, Axl Rose is backed up by guitarists Ron 'Bumblefoot' Thal, DJ Ashba and Richard Fortus, bassist/backing vocalist Tommy Stinson, drummer Frank Ferrer and keyboardists/backing vocalists Dizzy Reed and Chris Pitman. The current line-up is reportedly working on a new album in Los Angeles while the bitter feud between Axl Rose and former bandmate Slash persists. While Guns N' Roses of 1987 look nothing like Guns N' Roses of 2013, save for Axl Rose as the frontman, the band's legacy is undeniable. "I'm surviving this war, not the one who created this war," said Axl Rose in a Rolling Stone interview last October. In August 2010, former Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash (and his band) played to 8,000 fans at Surf Beach @ Sunway Lagoon, Petaling Jaya in Selangor. Guns N' Roses was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last April, which Axl Rose declined to attend.
