Construction work causing endless problems Posted: 15 Jan 2013 04:44 PM PST JOHOR BARU: A cosmetic product distributor is crying foul over an ongoing construction work beside his shop lot at Taman Mutiara Mas, Skudai, which has not only badly affected his business but also damaged the wall in his premise. The shopowner K. Elumalai Ganesh, 39, who is the chairman of Nature Essence (M) Sdn Bhd (a cosmetics company) said he had purchased the lot in 2010 and had planned to open his skin-care business in November last year. "When I came to have a look at my new shop lot after receiving the key in October last year, I was shocked to find out that there were an additional five units still under construction beside my unit," he told a press conference here. He added that according to the initial proposed plan for the row of shop lots, the developer was supposed to complete the construction works in October last year. "Although they (the developer) had handed the key to me on time, they had failed to inform me of the additional units to be completed," he said. Elumalai said that his plan to start up his cosmetics business here, which was estimated to rake in RM1million in sales revenue each month, had to be postponed as the construction works was causing water leakage through his wall. "Not only is the water sipping through but also my wall has been badly infected by algae causing an unpleasant odour in the premise. "The developers have agreed to make repairs of the infected wall but I am certain that the problem would persist until the completion of the other units," he added. He also said that the developer could not provide him with a clear indication as to when the additional units would be completed. Elumalai had lodged a police report against the developers and is planning to take the developers to court. Gelang Patah Democratic Action Party (DAP) vice president S Kogilavani who organised the press conference on Jan 6 said that the government should be more careful when approving constructions of such buildings. "The developers also should be more responsible and considerate to the owners who had purchased the shop lots a couple of years ago," she said. She added that the construction also created noise pollution, which made it impossible for Elumalai to conduct necessary training classes at the premise. The developer had refused to comment on the issue when contacted. |
