Posted: 01 Dec 2011 01:26 AM PST SINGAPOREAN indie singer-songwriter Inch Chua, 22, appears at the Rock Steady showcase at new live venue The Bee, Publika, Solaris Dutamas in Kuala Lumpur this Saturday. With significant exposure in her home country and shows in the US and China last year, Chua's career has gone from strength to strength. As restless as they come and mature beyond her years, Chua has struck a chord with the masses with her music derived from her observations about love, losts, relationships and urban living. Her Facebook page also declares a mission statement that reads: "total and utter satisfaction is the death of an artist." Being an advocate of free music, she also gives away her music for free on her website: www.inchchua.com. To date, Chua has released two EPs online: The Bedroom (August 2009) and Peace, Love & Mistletoe (December 2009). In July 2010, she released her debut full length album Wallflower where bonus track Try A Little Harder was specifically written for a DiGi advertisement here. Chua makes a rare outing to KL this weekend with her band The Metric System. Expect Chua to indulge music fans here with material from her debut album. Posted: 01 Dec 2011 01:18 AM PST SURE, it may all be down to luck. But perhaps, there's always been something more to Kelly Clarkson. Perhaps, her phenomenal real world-success, since graduating from American Idol, is testament to how relatable and yes, real she is. When life has handed them lemons, lesser stars have been known to pack it in and throw in the towel. Not Kelly though. Now, 29, America's first Idol's near decade-long career in music speaks volumes about her resilience and determination to succeed despite the odds. And don't worry if her songs all make it seem like her life is sad; Kelly claims it's all part of the plan. As the singer tells Galaxie in the Dec1-16 issue: "I secretly think I tend to sabotage myself to create music. I always write about hard situations … I always seem to have something to write about." Of course, Kelly's inspirational story is just one of the many featured in Galaxie's annual The Music Issue. In the pages of the current special issue, you will also get to read about the unstoppable Michael Bublé, who's now added author to his list of accomplishments, and Joe Jonas, who's attempting to make it on his own without his brothers in arms. Elsewhere in the magazine, Justin Bieber's baby drama is placed under the microscope while Philippine singing sensation Charice talks about how crazy her life is now. And as usual, stories aside, there are great giveaways to be enjoyed! And not just in magazine. Galaxie is giving away exclusive, autographed copies of Charice's latest album, Infinity, on its blog at galaxieblog.com.my. Galaxie, voted Entertainment Magazine Of The Year, is owned by Star Publications (M) Bhd. Posted: 01 Dec 2011 12:57 AM PST The Singaporean music festival will be back for its eighth edition and will feature a multi-act peace concert. FOR the first time, next year's edition of Mosaic in Singapore, the Esplanade's annual music festival, will have a theme – peace. This is in line with the arts venue's 10th anniversary celebrations next year, in which each of its festivals are curated with different values, says the Esplanade's assistant director of programming Clarence Yap. In keeping with the theme, the organisers have also commissioned a multi-act gig billed as a "peace concert". The gig will feature folk singer-songwriters such as home-grown acts Ramli Sarip, Art Fazil and Cat Ong as well as Malaysian singer-songwriter Yuna, all of them artistes who have championed the concept of peace through their songs and performances. Yap adds: "Mosaic will also feature artistes from around the world sharing their gifts across different genres as we revel in music's ability to bridge the barriers of geography and language to bring people together." True to the festival's name, the line-up next year will feature an eclectic mix of critically acclaimed acts ranging from jazz and alternative to electronica and roots. To be held from March 9 to 18 at various venues within the Esplanade, the eighth edition includes among its headliners British indie-rock band Elbow. The quintet, who have collected accolades like the Brit Award, the Mercury Music Prize and the Ivor Novello award, are playing their first concert in Singapore. English electronic pop stalwarts Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark, famous for evergreen 1980s hits such as Enola Gay and If You Leave, is another headliner, as is Australian jam band John Butler Trio. Other confirmed acts include Japanese post-rock band Toe, Welsh indie-pop band Los Campesinos!, Australian indie outfit Architecture In Helsinki and Japanese jazz musician Makoto Ozone, who also performed at Mosaic last year. All these artistes are performing at ticketed shows. The line-up for acts playing at the festival's free concerts is as yet unconfirmed. Singaporean artistes including Syed Ahmad from percussion troupe Bloco Singapura and electronic musicians Kiat and Max Lane from electronic collective Syndicate will also conduct music workshops during next year's festival. The last Mosaic, which was held in March, and featured acts such as jazz veteran Charlie Haden and electronic artist Aphex Twin, attracted 120,000 people, the festival's largest crowd yet. – The Straits Times, Singapore/Asia News Network > Tickets ranging from S$40 (RM98) to S$150 (RM376) will be on sale from Dec 8 through (www.sistic.com). The full line-up of Mosaic Music Festival 2012 will be up at (www.mosaicmusicfestival.com) the same day. Full content generated by Get Full RSS. |
