Latin jazz players file suit over cut Grammy award Posted: 02 Aug 2011 07:40 PM PDT NEW YORK (AP) - A group of Latin jazz musicians has filed a class-action lawsuit in New York against the organization that gives out the Grammy Awards. The lawsuit was filed Monday in state Supreme Court in Manhattan. It says the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences has harmed members who record Latin jazz by eliminating it as a separate category in next year's awards. The academy announced in April that the number of categories would go from 109 to 78. Among the changes was doing away with the category of Best Latin Jazz Album. That means musicians who would have been in that category now have to compete in a larger jazz category. The lawsuit calls for the category to be reinstated. The academy says the lawsuit is without merit. Full Feed Generated by Get Full RSS, sponsored by Used Car Search. |
