S. Korean pianist Yiruma sells out first ever Singapore gig

South Korean pianist Yiruma, best known for his song River Flows In You has sold out all 5,000 tickets of his April 5 concert in Singapore.

Pianist Lee Ru-ma, better known by his stage name Yiruma, is performing a solo concert for the first time in Singapore at The Star Theatre on April 5. All the 5,000 seats are currently sold out.

Yiruma, the 36-year-old pianist from South Korea, sold out his first ever solo concert in Singapore on April 5.

According to Sony Music, although this is his first solo concert, Yiruma has been loved by many fans in Singapore with his gentle and soothing instrumental music.

In an interview, Yiruma stated that he is "grateful for the fans waiting for my live performance, and I am also looking forward to it."

The 36-year-old pianist, who began playing the instrument at the age of five, graduated with a major in composition from King's College in London in 2000.

A prolific musician, Yiruma has released 10 studio albums to date. The latest, released last year, is entitled Blind Film.

His most well-known composition River Flows In You from his second album First Love released in 2001. YouTube uploads of the song have garnered more than 50 million views, a testament to his massive Enya-like popularity.

The pianist has toured extensively outside Asia, and regularly sells out concert tours in South Korea and Japan. In 2009, he embarked on a 14-city tour in his home country to celebrate the tenth anniversary of his recording career. – Reuters/TenAsia
