VMY unaffected by 'setbacks'

KUALA LUMPUR: Programmes for Visit Malaysia Year 2014 will go on as planned despite "setbacks" such as the missing Malaysia Airlines MH370 plane and the deaths from drug overdose at the Future Music Festival Asia 2014.

VMY 2014 secretariat general manager Nor Yahati Awang said the tourism industry is sensitive and such incidents were rather unfortunate.

"People will try to connect such incidents with the industry, unfortunately.

"Thankfully, all the programmes are going on as planned," she told reporters after attending the launch of the Menara Kuala Lumpur Commemorative Book in conjunction with VMY 2014 yesterday.

Menara Kuala Lumpur chairman Datuk Wira Othman Abdul launched the book titled Menara KL Towering Excellence.

On the six people who reportedly died of drug overdose at the Future Music Festival Asia 2014 in Bukit Jalil, Nor Yahati said all necessary precautions were taken before organising any event.

"In all our events, we cooperate with the authorities, including the police, without fail. We get clearance from the authorities first and we take all precautionary measures.

"What happened was unexpected," said Nor Yahati.

The Future Music Festival Asia is supported by Malaysia Major Events, a division of the Malaysian Convention and Exhibition Bureau, an agency under the Ministry Of Tourism And Culture.

The deaths forced organisers to cancel its show last Friday.

The police said the victims all tested positive for drugs and the deaths were due to overdose.

Three people were reported to be in critical condition.

The three-day festival featured international acts like Deadmau5, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Pharrell Williams, Rudimental and Porter Robinson.

Jilted singer leaks naked photos of ex

A PUB singer in Singapore put up 100 nude photographs of his ex-girlfriend on the Internet after she dumped him, reported China Press.

The woman, a 26-year-old web producer, told Singapore daily The New Paper that the man, whom she dated for about three years, had hounded her for naked pictures of herself for him to "admire".

She was reluctant at first, but relented when the guy told her to prove her love by sending him the photos.

She first sent him half-nude photos of herself, but he was not satisfied, insisting on fully undressed ones.

Not long ago, she went through the man's phone and found such photos of other women in it. She promptly broke up with him.

She later found out that the ex-boyfriend had released her nude photos via his Facebook account, saying he would only remove the photos if she reunited with him.

She finally told her family about it. They then went to talk to the man and lodged a police report.

> Sin Chew Daily reported that a housewife found a dead 1.5m dugong, riddled with injuries on its head and body, on a beach in Papar, Sabah.

Roslina Amin, 52, was visiting the beach with her children on Saturday afternoon when she saw the carcass of the mammal, which fishermen in the area believed had been dead for about three days.
