The Killers is ready for battle Posted: The American band is all set to play its first show in Malaysia on Sunday. Multi-platinum American rock band The Killers are set to play its first Malaysian concert at the Sepang International Circuit in Selangor on Sunday. Drummer Ronnie Vannucci Jr hopes to bring the band's best to the highly-anticipated gig. "You know, it's hard to not sound like a car salesman. We're going to pour sweat (and blood) to hopefully end up with a show where everybody is enjoying themselves," said Vannucci, 37, in a phone interview from Los Angeles, California. The quartet is completed by frontman Brandon Flowers, 32, guitarist Dave Keuning, 37, and bassist Mark Stoermer, 36. Formed in 2001 in Las Vegas, the group quickly established its mainstream rock credentials through its first two albums – Hot Fuss (2004) and Sam's Town (2006). Hit singles like Mr Brightside, Somebody Told Me, When You Were Young and Read My Mind have earned the band a massive global following. Kuala Lumpur is the second stop in the band's Asian leg of its current tour to promote the release of its fourth studio album Battle Born. Vanucci said the song he's most excited to play live is When You Were Young, a single from its second album Sam's Town. "The song always makes me feel like I'm not even playing! I really enjoy performing that song live." The band has also announced plans to release Direct Hits on Nov 11. The greatest hits compilation album will feature 18 of The Killers' best tracks. "It's part of our contractual obligation to come up with a greatest hits album after a certain period of time. It's fun to be able to look back at what we've done for the past 10 years." He added: "It also gives us the opportunity to explore previously unreleased tracks and demos." The upcoming album will feature new single Shot At The Night. Since the release of its debut album Hot Fuss in 2004, the band has sold over 15 million albums worldwide. Local rock outfit Kyoto Protocol will be the opening act for The Killers' concert at Sepang. Presented by Future Sound Asia, tickets are priced RM238 and RM358. They are available at selected Rock Corner outlets in the Klang Valley or online at www.boxtix.asia. Latest Internet sensation teaches us wild things Posted: What does the fox say? Ylvis has the answer and more. For the past two weeks The Fox has been shared, liked, tweeted and pinned many times over, which explains why it has garnered over 35 million (as of Sept 17) views on YouTube. It's a ridiculously cheesy track with silly lyrics that basically teaches us about the sounds that certain animals make. Well, sort of. The video was made by the Ylvisaker brothers Vegard, 34, and Bard, 31, and features folks dressed up in animal costumes, having a fun time. It also has some dance moves that may not be as interesting as Psy's Gangnam Style (aka last year's Internet sensation) but so easy to follow that you may soon be seeing tons of parody videos. Either that or your kids will be doing the dance and listening to the track over and over again. You may want to get your hands on some earplugs if that happens. The brothers are originally from Bergen, Norway but spent several years living in Mozambique and Angola during their childhood. The brothers claim that they were socially awkward when they returned from Africa in their teens. "We almost became those douches who pull out the guitar by the campfire," Bard was once quoted as saying in the Norwegian financial newspaper Dagens Naeringsliv. Fortunately for him and Vegard, things took a turn for the better. The Ylvisaker – or simply Ylvis (pronounced ill-vis) – brothers' careers kicked off in 2000 when they staged their first variety show. They received wonderful reviews for their work, prompting them to perform more often. The duo have since appeared on many stage, radio and TV shows across Norway. Norges Herligste, their first show on TV, premiered in 2007. In late 2011, they launched their variety show I kveld med YLVIS (Google-translated as "tonight with Ylvis"). I kveld med YLVIS showcases sketches, stunts and music videos; it also has a talkshow segment where the brothers speak to special guests. The Fox was produced as part of the new season premiere of I kveld med YLVIS. It was released on YouTube a week in advance – Sept 3 – as a teaser; it went viral after just four days, with seven million hits. The brothers have also released other videos prior to The Fox. Some of them include Work It, Jan Egeland and Stonehenge, which are all currently gaining interest online as the popularity of The Fox soars. — Melody L. Goh |
