Johor government carries out massive transfers of civil servants Posted: 21 Jun 2013 06:41 AM PDT JOHOR BARU: The Johor government has carried out a massive shake-up of its state civil service with promotions and transfers involving almost a third of the state's 220 top civil servants. The exercise, which involved at least 64 senior officers, is dubbed the biggest in recent years. Sources said that Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin wanted a new team to help strengthen the state government and to push his transformation agenda. At least six local council presidents have been replaced with new faces. They are from the Johor Baru City Council (MBJB), Central Johor Baru City Council (MBJBT), Kluang Municipal Council, Muar Municipal Council, Kota Tinggi district council and Yong Peng municipal council. The new MBJB mayor is Ismail Karim who was previously the district officer of Kota Tinggi. His predecessor Burhan Amin has been appointed as Perbadanan Islam Johor general manager. The other new council heads are Salehuddin Hassan who becomes the MBJBT president, Ramli A Rahman (Muar), Adib Azhari Daud (Kluang), Hasrin Kamal Hashim (Kota Tinggi) and Kamalludin Jamal (Yong Peng). Mohd Halim Hasbullah and Noorazam Osman have been made district officers for Kulaijaya and Kota Tinggi respectively. The state's new state tourism director is Mohd Haffiz Ahmad while Abdul Rashid Rahman is the new Johor Water Regulatory Authority (Bakaj) director. The sources said some of the changes involved those who have retired. "The movements were put on hold during the general election. Since being sworn in, the mentri besar and his state executive councillors have been busy attending meetings and briefings with more than a dozen agencies in the state since last month," the sources said. Meanwhile, state secretary Datuk Obet Tawil confirmed that a list of promotions and transfers has been released effective June 3. He said the reshuffles were only about filling up vacancies in the state civil service. "I have told the officers to work hard and to be knowledgeable. They also need to be friendly to the public and help resolve their problems," he added. |
Be inspired by decor ideas in upcoming home expo Posted: 21 Jun 2013 06:41 AM PDT JOHOR BARU: For the first time in Johor, an upcoming home decoration exhibition will feature a life size mock up home of a 185.81 sq m loft to inspire its visitors with creative ideas to decorate their homes. Homedec exhibition event organiser C.I.S. Network Sdn Bhd president Vincent Lim said that the showcase of the double-storey studio unit is expected to draw about 25,000 visitors to the exhibition here. "We have received good response when it was displayed during a similar exhibition in Penang April this year. "With the loft exhibition, we saw an increase in the number of visitors this year when compared to last year in the Penang event," he added. He said that with a build-up area of 55.74 sq m, the urban inspired loft is worth about RM300,000 including the household products that decorates the house. "We also spent an additional of over RM100,000 to build a mock pool outside the show unit," he said during a press conference recently. Lim added that the country's award-winning interior designer Lai Siew Hong designed the loft, which has "an open and fresh look". "We are targeting to hit over RM15mil in sales revenue throughout the three-day event," he said adding that they achieved about RM14mil in sales revenue last year. Lim said that there will also be cash prize give-aways of a total of RM30,000 to lucky visitors who spend a minimum of RM100 in a single receipt during the exhibition. Some 370 booths will be set up for the exhibition, which will be held at Persada International Convention Centre here from June 28 to June 30. |
State wants feedback to improve welfare of Johoreans Posted: 21 Jun 2013 06:41 AM PDT NUSAJAYA: The state government is compiling feedback from Johoreans on issues close to their hearts such as improvement in public infrastructure and facilities as well as affordable houses. Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said that the exercise, from now to September would give a better idea to the government on improving the lifestyle and the welfare of Johoreans. "Themed as Suara Rakyat Johor campaign, it will be conducted online and on the ground involving at least 8,000 people living in rural, semi-rural and urban areas statewide," he explained. He said that the results of the recently concluded GE13 served as an indicator that the rakyat wanted improvements in the state government policies that would further benefit them. Speaking to reporters in a press conference at the Kota Iskandar state administrative building here yesterday, he said that the research was the state government's initiative to move towards a more "people-friendly government". Mohamed Khaled said that the online and oral data compilation would involve Johoreans from all walks of life. "The objective is to know what the people want from us, pinpoint the main problems faced by the rakyat and what are the solutions that we can come out with," he said, adding that the state government was committed to making changes based on the feedback from the people. He also said that the research was to be conducted between the state government and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia involving 20 university staff with some 100 students and volunteers who would go on field to interview the randomly selected interviewees. "I hope that the people will give their honest and rational opinion and suggestions in order for us to make the necessary changes and improve our policies," he said.
