At a tender age, he had to work as a rubber-tapper at his grandparents' smallholding in Asahan, Jasin apart from peddling fruits at street and the collections were used as money to buy food in the school canteen and to buy revision books.

Idris also elaborated in his blog that he had to use tattered shoes to school while only recycling his old "Baju Melayu" for Hari Raya during his younger days.

Despite his family's financial constraints, the chief minister emerged a high-achiever in all his examinations, subsequently earning a Tenaga Nasional bursary to pursue his tertiary education in Texas, United States.

Armed with academic qualifications and "going through the mill" experience, Idris announced that his thrusting a second phase of the "Melaka Maju 2101" concept to realise a high-income population over the next 10 years.

"We have to re-brand the concept where focus will be emphasised on development and injection of more people-centric projects," he told StarMetro on Wednesday.

Idris said in his bid to achieve the motive, he had delegated the task accordingly to his new state executive councillors.

Eight state assemblymen, including five new faces, were sworn-in as excos on Tuesday while the chief minister held the Finance, Land, Economic, Investment and Industrialisation, Religious Affairs, Heritage, Youth Development and Tourism portfolios.

Idris said he have asked his exco to manifest a leadership by example dispositions by being punctual, people friendly and concentrate on their task on developing the state.

"I can't do all the job by myself, hence, I have delegated the responsibilities to the excos and their deputies.

"Exco should act as leaders and their deputies should be second in command where with their commitments and dedications, we can bring forward our ambition to see more affluent Malaccans," he said.

Idris said there should be also a total revamp in mindset from excos right up to the staff at state government departments and agencies.

"The second phase of the concept should witness a paradigm shift at all levels in state government's administration where the service provided should be of high quality and consistent," he said.

Idris said his aspiration was also to advance the integration and harmony levels of all communities in Malacca.

"We need to be united at all tiers to be in tandem with the global pace and the growth of this region," he said.

Idris noted that the state government alone couldn't function by itself to achieve the mission and need to rope in the participation of all Malaccans.

"Therefore, it is imperative for the locals to think like populace of a modern state and play their respective roles in putting fiscal growth on the right track," he added.
