Councillors under KPI benchmark Posted: 02 Mar 2013 03:27 AM PST MALACCA: All four local authorities in Malacca have been asked to evaluate their respective councillors under the Key Performance Index (KPI) benchmark. State secretary Datuk Wira Omar Kaseh said the state government felt that the councillors should also be subjected to KPI in order to turn Malacca into haven for the tourists. "It's time for us to implement KPI on the councillors so that they would go an extra mile to ensure that cleanliness and quality of services are conformed at the grassroots level," he said. Speaking at a dinner organised by Alor Gajah Municipal council (MPAG) here on Tuesday, Omar said even he was subjected to KPI evaluation by his superiors. "Therefore, we have to widen the KPI scope to cover councillors in order for us to achieve a better result in term of cleanliness and superb service," he said. Earlier in his speech, Omar called upon councillors to assist their respective local governments in spearheading programmes that benefit the masses. He said its time for the councillors not to rest on their laurels and go all out to have programmes relating to the public being implemented successfully. "These councillors should also double their efforts to 'turun padang' to get an insight on what's happening on the ground," he said. Omar said the four local governments in the state should also be receptive to the needs of their clients and resolve any resentments faced by them. He said the state government also aimed at zeroing any complaints against the local governments and set an exemplary state to boost a pool of efficiently managed local councils in the country. Omar said any attempts by the local governments and councillors to take things for granted could affect the state government's reputation. He also called upon local governments in the state to expedite any applications of licences and other transactions that could spur the fiscal growth of the state. "Local governments should also look into all matters concerning infrastructures, development of their respective jurisdictions without any hiatus that could have disgruntled clients voicing their grouses to the media," he said. During the event, Omar also took the opportunity to commend MPAG's president Abu Bakar Abdol in his initiative in actively engaging with the people of Alor Gajah through various programmes. The event was organised to also express gratitude to outgoing councillors who have completed their term at the end of 2012. |
