Hawaiian hunk says he’s ready for first Malaysian battle

Posted: 25 Jan 2013 05:10 AM PST

STATE wrestling champion, Lowen Tynanes, is set to make his ONE Fighting Championship (ONE FC) debut in Malaysia and promises a great show by giving it his all.

The 22-year-old Hawaiian has already garnered fans in Asia after he won a hard-fought decision victory in Japan, before he defeated Filipino Eduard Folayang in front of a partisan Manila crowd.

"This will be my first fight in Malaysia and I will be giving 110% for the fans. You can be sure that I will be giving a good show," Lowen told StarMetro.

Lowen will be fighting the current South African Thai-boxing middleweight champion, Vuyisile Colossa, who holds a professional mix martial arts (MMA) record of 4-1, with his only loss coming at the hands of Eduard.

Lowen only started doing MMA four years ago but he said fighting was in his DNA.

In a recent interview with industry press, the Hawaiian lad said he started fighting after watching his father fight in the ring for many years.

"I train with my father, Miles. They help me improve my stand-up game," he said.

Although Miles will not be in Malaysia to support his son due to personal matters, Lowen said he was still very close to his father.

"I talk to him everyday! He's always pushing me to improve myself in life. I would describe our relationship as brothers. My pops isn't afraid to tell me if I'm doing something wrong. He's always looking out for my best interests," said Lowen.

"He is the whole reason why I am fighting today. He showed me that this sport isn't all about power, talent, or strength. Practice makes you better and, depending on talent, takes you so far.

"My dad showed me how this sport can build one's character and teach humility, not only by the way you win, but also by the way you lose."

Headquartered in Singapore, ONE FC is Asia's largest mixed martial arts organisation. ONE FC hosts the best Asian mixed martial arts exponents and world champions on the largest media broadcast in Asia.

Anak Kalumpang end goal drought with 5-1 win

Posted: 25 Jan 2013 05:09 AM PST

SUBANG Jaya-based Anak Kalumpang FC are looking forward to continuing their winning momentum in their ongoing campaign at the Football Association of Selangor (FAS) league.

Last Saturday, they went on a scoring spree and defeated Wira-Ampang Stats FC 5-1 in the Premier Division Group D at Taman Berjaya, Sungai Chua in Kajang.

It was a morale boost for Anak Kalumpang under the guidance of Zainul Mashi Mohd Fathil as they ended their goal drought from the previous four matches.

Wira-Ampang Stats FC needed only a minute to get into the lead when Anak Kalumpang defender Ugendran Rongodurai directed a shot into his own net.

Wira-Ampang Stats FC manager Azizul Hakim said it was going to be a good experience to be making the debut appearance in the competitive FAS league.

"We fielded the majority of senior representatives above 30 compared to Anak Kalumpang's youthful side comprising the Under-21 youngsters.

"We found it tough to keep up with their speedy pace. We are satisfied with our performance but it was not enough for a win over the more deserving Anak Kalumpang."

Abdul Muhaimin Tuan Hassan scored the equaliser before K. Yakish Rao got Anak Kalumpang 2-1 ahead as they went into the half-time interval.

After an evenly matched contest at the start of the second half, Faridz Ismail struck a clinical grounder from outside the penalty box after he received a pass from Abdul Muhaimin.

Abdul Muhaimin went on to slot in a formality kick from the spot after he was brought down in the penalty box.

And Amirrul Adli M. Yussli did not allow Wira-Ampang Stats FC's goalkeeper to react when he connected a volley to wrap up the 5-1 victory for Anak Kalumpang.

Despite chalking up the convincing victory, Zainul warned his charges to remain level-headed as there was still room for improvement.

"We could have applied more pressure on our opponents in threatening to score more goals. Hopefully, we will strengthen our team work to produce a more lethal finishing in the future," he added.
