Adnan: PR’s promises are imitations of what BN has been doing all these while Posted: 17 Dec 2012 03:24 PM PST KUANTAN: Pakatan Rakyat's promises are just imitations of what Barisan Nasional have been doing all these while, said Pahang Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob. In responding to PR's "3+6 mega offers" made during its assembly in Temerloh recently, Adnan said the Opposition were just good at copying what others had done because they had nothing new to fight for. "They said if they took over the Federal Government, they would place Felda Plantation participants among the scheme's second generation. That is not practical at all because there is simply not enough land. "This is why the Prime Minister has come up with the best solution which is to list Felda Global Ventures Holdings," he said during his winding up speech at the state assembly sitting here. Adnan said PR's second offer, which was to give a 20% oil royalty to the Pahang government, was a stupid statement. "The oil field opposite Pahang does not belong to us. It is owned by Petronas under the Petroleum Act. There is no way we can get even a sen but the Federal Government is kind enough to give us a special payment of RM100mil," he said, adding that if every state wanted a 20% royalty, the Federal Government would end up with nothing. Countering PR's third offer, Adnan said the state government had been upgrading basic infrastructures even without needing the Opposition to call for it to be done. On the extra six offers for Pahang, he said the state government had prepared housing lots for those without lands or homes. "PR said they would settle land applications. The state government has been doing this as well but we cannot give it freely because there is not enough land for everyone. Likewise, we have gazetted land for the orang asli community except that it takes time because it is not easy," said Adnan. He continued shooting down the offers by saying that the state executive councillors discussed land status changes every week. "Here we have another offer where they said assessment tax will be reduced by taking the increased forestry and mineral rev enue into consideration. Well, I would like to say that tax has never been increased all these while so there is no need for it to be reduced," Adnan said. He added that PR had to understand the art of governing because the state could not monopolise mining and forestry operations or else there would be no opportunity for others. In what could be the last sitting before the general election, Adnan then wished the state assemblymen, Speaker and state assembly staff good health and thanked them for their service. "In the end, all of us will die. But before our lights go out, let's work hard and light up the lives of others," he advised. |

Jet skis to be used to patrol Sandakan’s coastline during peak periods Posted: 17 Dec 2012 05:57 PM PST SANDAKAN: Police are turning to jet skis to patrol the shallow waters off this Sabah east coast district. State Police Commisioner Datuk Hamza Taib said the use of jet skis would be handy to monitor Sandakan's coastline during peak periods. "Jet ski patrolling is useful as it is one of the state's hotspots apart from Kota Kinabalu, Penampang, Tawau and Lahad Datu," he said after the Sandkan district level Crime Awareness Day by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman recently. This was among the initiatives to reduce crime through the National Key Result Area (NKRA), Hamza added. Hamza said the number of crime cases reported to Sabah police between January and July this year had dropped by 8.73% to 5,548 compared to the corresponding period in 2011 where there were 6,079 cases. "Meanwhile, the rate of cases solved was 48.97% and street crime at 48.40% which had achieved the Key Performance Index (KPI) set under the NKRA," Hamza said. On the Crime Awareness Day, Hamza said it was aimed at sterengthening ties between the police and community. Earlier, Musa said the public must to their part in curbing crime and not depend on the police alone. "We should be aware of crime prevention measures by knowing the causes of crime and consequences of criminal behavior and its negative effects on our society and our country's future," he added. |
