Village heads urged to be proactive in local matters Posted: 09 Nov 2012 07:21 PM PST LIPIS: Village heads who are familiar and well versed with local problems have to play active roles by bringing up the matter to the highest authorities for further action. Pahang Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob said these village heads who are close to the local problems faced by villagers should make it as their core business by taking up the issues and submitting reports to the authorities at high level. Adnan said it would be a good idea for the Government to set a key performance index on the reports of the villagers' problems reported by the local leaders including village heads. He said he only came to know about the probelms via his visits whereas he was not informed on the matter earlier. "I would not know of their problems if I was not notified. "I only come to know about the problems faced by the locals when I make visits to villagers. Among the problems include their needs for better development of the villages, upgrading of suraus, repairing of bridges and others. "We have allocations in providing aid, however, because we were not informed of such problems, no action was taken and we get the blame," Adnan said after attending a Korban Perdana programme organised by Pahang State Development Corporation in Felcra Sungai Temau here recently. Adnan said the people could not expect him to carry out frequent visits to villages to find out their problems. "I have limited time. However, I will try my best as I have other responsiblities which need my attention. "If I come to know of any problems, action would be taken to mitigate the people's sufferings," he said. Adnan said the failure to provide prompt services pertaining to people's grouses would provide an opportunity for the Opposition to condemn the government and label them as irresponsible. He said there were some cases in which the government was given inaccurate or wrong information, resulting in a delay in giving out aids. "The people can give me information personally via short messaging services, letters or phone calls," he said, adding that his doors were always open for the people to channel their grouses and feedback. |
