Gotye toplines Laneway fest in Singapore

Posted: 01 Nov 2012 02:39 AM PDT

THE third edition of the Laneway festival in Singapore on Jan 26 will see the popular event staying true to its branding with a line-up of contemporary indie-centric acts while also introducing a new venue - The Meadow at Gardens By The Bay - to accomodate a bigger audience.

The line-up includes crossover favourites like Gotye, Kings Of Convenience, Tame Impala and Bat For Lashes while edgier names like Alt-J, Cloud Nothings, Divine Fits, Japandroids, Kimbra, Nicolas Jaar, Of Monsters And Men, Real Estate, Polica and Yeasayer will be highlights for the indie faithful.

With a roster of diverse acts hailing from Britain, United States, Iceland, Norway, Australia and New Zealand, the upcoming edition of Laneway festival looks the part in delivering an all-day music marathon from the indie side of the tracks.

Since the Australian-based festival branched out and landed in Singapore in 2011, the only Asian Laneway festival has attracted a keen following in the region.

AIM 19 Offers Glamour, Glitz and Red Carpet

Posted: 01 Nov 2012 12:35 AM PDT

This year's Anugerah Industri Muzik (AIM) will be held on Nov 17, 2012, at Stadium Malawati, Shah Alam. The 19th award presentation, by The Recording Industry Association of Malaysia (RIM), is deemed to be the Malaysian equivalent of the prestigious Grammy Awards in the United States.

Themed Black and White Glam Glitz, AIM is set to entertain and dazzle with a stellar lineup of new, upcoming and established artistes including Datuk Siti Nurhaliza, Hafiz, Mojo, Jimmy Palikat, One Nation Emcees, Shila Amzah, Lefthanded and Forteen.

Hosting the much-anticipated music event this year are two individuals who are no strangers to the Malaysian public - Aznil Nawawi and Adibah Noor. This will mark the first time the duo are working together as hosts for an event of this scale.

Just like the Grammy Awards, AIM this year will have a red carpet event called "Karpet Glamor" (Glamour Carpet), hosted by TV personalities Awal Ashaari and Dahlia Shazwan. The pair will be mingling and conducting live interviews with the artistes right before AIM starts.

Among those presenting awards this year are Adi (ERA), celebrity MasterChef Datuk Fazley, Dina (ERA), Faizal Tahir, Hattan, Heliza, Krista K, Nadia, Nora Danish, Siti Sarah, Tam Spider, The Fabulous Cats, Yassin and Zahid (ERA).

Representing RIM as presenters are Norman Abdul Halim and Rosmin Hashim.

"AIM has always been the music awards show to look out for every year and we strive to continue bringing the best music acts and live performances to Malaysian music fans," said Rosmin, RIM AIM organising committee chairman, at a recent press conference held at the Intercontinental Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.

He added, "The lineup of performers and presenters this year has been carefully evaluated and selected by the AIM organising committee together with the official broadcaster to ensure that viewers will be truly entertained."

Viewers and fans can expect to see the following singers and bands perform on stage that night: Asmidar, Datuk Siti Nurhaliza, Drama Band, Forteen, GX4, Hafiz, Hyper Act, Jaclyn Victor, Jimmy Palikat, Keroz Nazri, Khalifah, Klangit, Lefthanded, May, Mojo, Nirawana Band, One Nation Emcees, SalamMuzik, Shila Amzah, Stacy, Stephen Rahman Hughes and The Malayan.

The 19th AIM "Karpet Glamor" will be telecast live at 8.30pm, leading up to the AIM telecast at 9pm, exclusively on Astro Ria (Channel 104) and Mustika HD (channel 134).

The official TV and radio broadcasters for AIM this year are Astro Ria and Era FM respectively; they are supported by Sinar FM.
