New MACC complex in Pahang ready by 2013

Posted: 17 Oct 2012 08:34 PM PDT

KUANTAN: The new state Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) complex in Indera Mahkota costing RM27.9mil is expected to begin operation early next year.

Completed since August this year, the building was officially handed over to MACC by the Public Works Department (PWD).

Present to witness the ceremony were PWD senior assistant director Nik Ainun Zanariah Nik Abdul Rasyid, MACC deputy chief commissioner (management and professionalism) Datuk Zakaria Jaffar and Pahang MACC director Moh Samsudin Yusof.

In his speech, Zakaria said the complex built on a land area measuring 2.023ha would be able to begin operation by Jan 1 next year.

"We hope the complex can provide a more comfortable and conducive environment for the public to interact with us once it is fully operational.

"The new five-storey building comprises 165 rooms for different divisions and scope of duties including investigations, administration, inspection, communications, records, surveillance and public education.

"In addition, it is equipped with security features and closed-circuit television system," he said.

Zakaria said the complex was also equipped with six cells — four for men and two for women detainees — held for questioning.

He said a store room and a shooting range were also allotted within the complex to enable MACC officers to carry out their duties efficiently.

"Two special rooms installed with video recording system would be completed by the end of this year.

"All questioning of witnesses, informers or suspects would be conducted on the lower ground floor to avoid any untoward incident," he said, adding that the move was aimed to enhance public trust and confidence.

Zakaria said MACC would conduct their tasks in a transparent manner to satisfy all parties.

He said statements taken would be in triplicate with one copy given to the witness, another for the safekeep of MACC investigating officer and the third to be submitted to the court during the prosecution process.

"With all these initiatives and improvements, MACC officers should be able to carry out their tasks without facing any problems," he said.

KUANTAN: Having his wife Kapt (Rtd) Fadzillah Abdullah as his coursemate was a source of motivation for Kapt (Rtd) Umar Arbain Dolah.

Umar, 54, said if it were not for his wife's insistence, he would not had thought about furthering his studies.

Umar and Fadzillah, 50, both obtained their executive diploma in project management at Universiti Malaysia Pahang's (UMP) convocation recently.

"It all began when we started a firm after our retirement," he said. "My wife wanted us to increase our knowledge in company management, so we ended up continuing our studies together."

To do that, Umar said, was tiring, especially at his age but Fadzillah's motivation made it easy.

"Our wish has now been achieved with our children also encouraging us to study hard," said the father of six.

Another couple Rahimi Md Arifin, 37, and Marsitawati Mamat, 32, also received their diplomas.

Marsitawati said it was a dream-come-true as she once had to forgo her education.

"I was offered an architecture and landscaping diploma course at UiTM Shah Alam before but I could not take it up due to family commitments," she recalled. "Now, I have fulfilled my dream together with my husband."

Marsitawati said the two of them would help each other with their assignments as their two young children needed their attention, too.

"We had to take turns doing the chores," she said, dedicating the diploma to the children. "We had to sacrifice a lot of quality time with our growing children for academic pursuit."

The couple are managers in their own construction companies.

A total of 2,075 UMP students received their degrees and diplomas at the two-day convocation.
