CIMB-YFA boys clinch Under-14 crown to add to their Under-12 victory

Posted: 05 Oct 2012 05:48 AM PDT

IT WAS a memorable outing for CIMB-Youth Football Academy in the 1MCC-Hong Leong Yamaha Under-14 football league.

CIMB-YFA, one of the well organised sides in the league, became the champions when they edged PKNS FC 2-1 in extra time in the final at the Petaling Jaya Stadium in Kelana Jaya recently.

CIMB-YFA's R. Dinesh was voted Man of the Match (final) and R. Kogileswaran was the league's top scorer with 18 goals.

The match started on an interesting note when CIMB-YFA took the lead in the second minute when Kogileswaran scored.

Despite dominating the match CIMB-YFA were unable to increase their lead. The second half resumed with PKNS looking for the equaliser and it came when Muhammad Fazrul Fahriz Zeky scored.

With the score at 1-1 until the end of regulation time, the match went into extra-time. The determined CIMB-YFA were rewarded when Fariq Ashraf Rohaizan fired from a difficult angle beyond the reach of PKNS goalkeeper Mohamad Adam Harith Zulkarnain.

As the champions, CIMB-YFA received RM10,000 while PKNS FC had to settle for RM5,000. CIMB-YFA chief coach N. Radhakrishnan praised his players for their determined performance.

"We dominated the match. We had ample chances to get the goals in normal time. Unfortunately our strikers failed to score. It was a good effort from our players. We have to commend PKNS also for giving us a good fight. They also have a solid junior development programme,'' said Radhakrishnan.

It was CIMB-YFA's second title in the 1MCC-Hong Leong Yamaha League. Last month they won the Under-12 title in the league. Their next target is the Under-16 title in the league.

"We are looking forward to making an impact in the Under-16 league. The players have been training diligently,'' said Radhakrishnan.
