Stench from garbage trucks

Posted: 03 Dec 2011 04:40 AM PST

We REFER to the story 'Stench in Semenyih' published in StarMetro on Nov 22 and would like to clarify issues highlighted in the article.

The Selangor Department of Environment has investigated the matter. Based on the investigations, it was found that the stench was caused by spilled garbage from garbage trucks and it was estimated that about 600 garbage trucks move in and out from Recycle Energy Sdn Bhd (RESB) every day.

The RESB premises is located at Kampung Pasir Baru, Semenyih, Kajang and is about four to five kilometres from Bandar Sunway Semenyih/Taman Desa Mewah.

In order to control foul odour from the domestic waste, RESB observes the practice of spraying bio-enzyme onto the waste (stock piles) within their premises as well as onto the garbage trucks heading out from RESB premises.

The Selangor DOE will continue to monitor RESB on its compliance to a written notice issued on Sept 30, 2011 and also the detailed EIA approval conditions especially on RESB's management of waste stock piles within its premises and the control of leachate discharges from the disposal site to the nearby water-course.
