Girl ends up paying more for bargain goods Posted: 01 Nov 2011 03:39 PM PDT JOHOR BARU: Thinking that she had gotten a fantastic deal on a game console, game discs and branded bags for a total of RM300, landed a 19-year-old girl in court recently. Siti Sa'adah Nasoha ended up paying a fine of RM4,000 after pleading guilty to possessing stolen goods, which is what the items turned out to be. Her lawyer Nurain Kamarden said that the girl did not know that the items were stolen when she first bought them from a friend. "She thought that she had grabbed a good deal by purchasing the items at such a low price. "Even now she regrets buying the goods and will take it as a lesson for the future," said Nurain before asking the court to lower Siti Sa'adah's fine. Siti Sa'adah was charged for possessing the stolen items including a Sony Playstation 3, game controller, Playstation camera, Sony Motion Controller, several game discs and two branded bags. She pleaded guilty to possessing the items, which were found in her bedroom at her home in Taman Bukit Indah here at around 11.30pm on July 21, 2011. Furor over flight cancellations Posted: 01 Nov 2011 03:42 PM PDT JOHOR BARU: Over 7,000 Firefly tickets sold for flights departing from Senai Airport to destinations in Sabah, Sarawak and Indonesia were cancelled since the end of August, leaving the state, passengers and ticketing agents worried. State Tourism and Domestic Trade Committee chairman Hoo Seong Chang said: "We want to know more as this cancellation came as a shock to us. From what I was told, Firefly had been seeing good passenger loads since it started flying from Senai in Johor." Hoo hoped that the cancellations would not affect tourism especially with the Johor Premium Outlets (JPO) mall set to open its doors soon. "In fact we expect more people to fly into Johor when JPO opens and this will include more chartered flights," he said. He added that the state was willing to help out but would wait for Firefly's official reply on the matter. Meanwhile, Malaysia Airlines said in a statement that the group had embarked on a network rationalisation programme with its subsidiary Firefly, concentrating on servicing short-haul turboprop operations. The takeover of Firefly jet services by MAS group is part of the service separation plans under the business realignment exercise which addresses the continuing heavy losses being incurred by Firefly's jet operations. "MAS deeply regrets any inconvenience caused to passengers of Firefly Jet services affected by this network rationalisation programme and gives its assuranc to passengers that it will honour all flight seats sold on Firefly". Passengers with queries related to bookings or reservations on Firefly can write to customer_care@fireflyz.com.my with the booking confirmation number and flight details or call 03-7845 4543 or visit www.fireflyz.com.my for more information. Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (Matta) Johor chapter chairman Kenny Ngi said recently that the cancellation of two routes for Johor Baru to Kuching and Johor Baru to Kota Kinabalu by Firefly had caused a lot of inconvenience for both travel agents and passengers. He said that passengers who bought their flight tickets from Matta's 241 travel agents were unhappy over the matter. Full content generated by Get Full RSS. |
