Sixty-eight boys register for football camp

Posted: 08 Nov 2011 03:24 AM PST

SIXTY-EIGHT boys have registered for the upcoming GoldValley Club football Summer Camp that will be held in Blue Lagoon, Port Dickson from Nov 20 to Dec 31.

According to GoldValley Club general manager Chang Weng Sun, the boys aged between 12 and 18, will stay at a bungalow in Port Dickson while undergoing training, playing friendlies and even learning to do their own chores.

"Trainees will spend their 41 days here and we will provide them with four meals and even have a barbecue session on the eve of Christmas.

"Because our club aims to promote football for the youth, we did not impose any charges for some players whose parents have financial problems. We also have boys from orphanages coming to join the camp for free.

"Besides training, the boys who are here will learn how to cook, wash their own clothes, clean up their bedroom and sweep the house. We will also conduct English tuition classes," he said.

Most of the boys who registered are from the GoldValley Youth football programme that have training sessions three times a week in Padang Maluri in Taman Bukit Maluri, Kepong under former Selangor Youth coach Gunasegran K. Muniandy.

"This camp is suitable as it acts as an avenue for boys and the team to train and learn from each other's character that could be applied when they are on the field.

"The more the group stay and train together, they get to understand each other better," said Gunasegran, who is also Youth chief coach under this club.

Besides this, GoldValley Club also had a team in Division Two of the Kuala Lumpur Football League where the youths here are adopted into the team if they have potential.

He said there are many talented players in the youth training programme.

"A 16-year-old boy named Terrence Soo Inn Hwa, who is currently playing for GoldValley Club in Kuala Lumpur Football League, is talented and should be spotted by the state coaches," said Gunasegran, who will be with the boys during the camp in Port Dickson.

Those who are interested in joining the camp, can call Gunasegran at 012-678 4168 or Raj at 016-910 6317.
