'The X Factor' picked up for second season Posted: 02 Nov 2011 05:49 PM PDT LOS ANGELES: Simon Cowell and his cohorts on ''The X Factor'' have something to sing about. Fox announced Wednesday that it has picked up the reality competition for a second season. The U.S. version of the series, which premiered Sept. 21, has been the reliable performer it was predicted to be for Fox. It's averaged more than 13 million total viewers, while providing a significant ratings boosts for Fox in the key adults 18-49 demographic on both Wednesdays (which have enjoyed a 37 percent increase in the demo) and Thursdays (which have had a 41 percent jump). Cowell, who serves as the series' executive producer as well as co-judge, said he was ''absolutely thrilled'' about the renewal. ''I have loved making the show and I want to thank Fox, our sponsors and most importantly, the fans for supporting 'The X Factor,''' Cowell added. Mike Darnell, president of alternative programming for Fox Broadcasting, called the show ''a monumental success.'' ''The talent is phenomenal, the live shows are spectacular and picking it up is a complete no-brainer. Simon and his team have done an incredible job with the show,'' Darnell said.
