Resort living in Johor Baru

Posted: 11 Oct 2011 06:12 PM PDT

SERI Austin, located in Tebrau, Johor Baru, offers great accessibility and residential appeal. The area boasts a 36-hole golf and country resort and middle-class suburban elegance. It is located near Jusco, Tesco, Ikea (coming soon) and Sunway College.

Seri Austin, comprising 500 acres (202ha) of freehold land, has a healthy and conducive community living environment and well-designed homes at affordable prices. With its modern layouts and attractive architecture, Seri Austin homes have captured the interest and imagination of homeowners. It's "simply better" homes with better design and superior quality.

Developed by Dynasty View Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of United Malayan Land Berhad's (UMLand), Seri Austin in Johor is ideally located within Iskandar Malaysia.

To date, 200 acres (80m) have been developed – there's balance left for future growth. Over 1,000 houses have been completed and fully occupied. The integrated development is expected to house a population of 30,000 upon completion.

Seri Austin boasts excellent accessibility via the North-South Expressway, Dato' Onn Interchange, Pasir Gudang Highway and Tebrau-Kota Tinggi Highway.

Currently, it only takes a 15 minute drive to get to the Johor Baru city centre but this travel time would be even shorter when the RM977mil Eastern Dispersal Link Expressway (EDL) is completed. This 8.1km expressway will connect the end of North-South Expressway Southern Route in Pandan to the new Sultan Iskandar CIQ Complex in the city centre. It will act as a bypass to CIQ complex without using Tebrau Highway.

The precincts within this well-planned township have limited entry points to create a more private and secure neighbourhood. Green linear parks, jogging tracks, lush landscaping and beautiful lakes linking the precincts together provide a conducive meeting ground for residents.

Protecting and sustaining the environment is a major part in UMLand's Corporate Social Responsibility agenda and this is evident in the "Green Living" campaign launched in Seri Austin. Seri Austin is also the first township in Johor Baru to implement the "Effective Microorganism" (EM) programme, supported by local authority Majlis Bandaraya Johor Bahru (MBJB).

The awareness campaign aims to provide the public with better information on environment-friendly products and to educate the public to start living a greener and healthier lifestyle. Seri Austin is also committed to being a safe and secure township with the commencement of the Community Police Post as well as the continuing efforts of the neighbourhood police and in-house security guards.

Emery, the 22' x 70' wide and spacious double storey terrace is planned with simplicity and practicalities in mind but little touches that add a sense of modern living. It is located on Seri Austin Hills, which provides natural breathtaking views of calm. The two-storey terrace homes merge comfort, excellence and function.

Emery is also equipped with Telekom Malaysia high speed broadband for better connectivity.

Emery embraces a bold new design with contemporary façade and spacious interiors that include a master bedroom, family area and balcony. It has four spacious bedrooms and four bathrooms. Emery has a wider car porch with a longer driveway and bigger floor tiles for living and dining. It comes with fiber optic telephone cables without any overhead electric cables.

Monument marks centre of Sabah

Posted: 11 Oct 2011 06:09 PM PDT

KOTA KINABALU: A monument has been erected deep in the heart of Sabah to mark the centre of the state.

Traversing dense forests and using complex calculations, the Royal Institute of Surveyors Malaysia (RISM) Sabah branch ended their four-year painstaking initiative to locate Sabah's midpoint with the official unveiling of the monument recently.

The idea for the project was floated in 2006 but the journey to the centre of Sabah was only done three years later.

The Centre of Sabah is located on a hill – part of a small mountain range – at 582.4m above sea-level, about 280km from the state capital in the thick jungles of the Pinangah Forest Reserve in Telupid.

The feat was achieved with help from the state's Quantity Surveying and Mapping Department, Land and Survey Department and Forestry Department.

"We did it slowy, bit by bit and now we are all delighted to have marked the exact point of the centre of Sabah. It is a rewarding feeling," said RISM Sabah branch chairman Bernard Sia.

The centre of Sabah where the monument sits now has been named Bukit RISM.

The trail to the top of the hill from the nearest vehicle access point is 3.6km, which takes about six to eight hours by foot to make a round trip to the top and back.

"We arranged the expedition as the last stage of our project while at the same time officially unveil the monument and trig station at Bukit RISM," Sia said, adding 54 members took part in the trek.

He explained that they had used complicated mathematical formulae, with more than 18,600 points taken along Sabah's coastline to the heart of Sabah to zero in on the centre of Sabah.

State Tourism, Culture and Environ-ment Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said the centre of Sabah has the potential to be a good tourisn product.

"It's a good idea because nobody really knows were the centre of Sabah is. For us in a tourism aspect, we would like to create as many products as possible.

"People come to Sabah to see nature. They like to travel, hike and you'll be surprised to know that there are quite a number of tourists who go into the interiors to hike for days because of its significance," he said.

Masidi, who flagged off the group on their expedition, also pointed out that the marking of the centre of Sabah showed how Sabahans appreciated their beloved home state.

More volunteers needed to become reservists in Johor

Posted: 11 Oct 2011 06:08 PM PDT

KOTA TINGGI: The Johor government had always encouraged civil servants to enlist with the Askar Wataniah (Territorial Army) said state secretary Datuk Obet Tawil.

He added that the state had also collaborated with the 501st Wataniah Regiment for 16 years where Johor's civil servants became reservists.

Obet, who is also the Johor Armed Forces Reservists Support Committee (JAKPAW) chairman, said government had set the standard of having one regular soldier with two reservists.

"This would strengthen the company of the TA reservists in the state and make them more resilient and ever ready to be recalled for duty.

"The TA was adopted by the Johor government since Oct 28, 1995, and various efforts were made to strengthen the nation's defence," he said.

Obet who is also a honorary Colonel with the reservists, said special leave are given to any civil servant to participate in the TA's annual training camp.

"Johor is also one of the earliest states in the country where each 26 parliamentary areas have their own reservists.

"The event was launched by the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in November 2007, when he was the Defence Minister," he said at the JAKPAW annual training in Ulu Tiram recently.

Relating to the annual reservist's camp, the 501st TA Regiment deputy commander Lt-Col Ishak Ismail urged more youth to enlist as reservists.

He said the TA is an important element to the nation's defence as they form a second-tier to back-up the enlisted infantrymen.

"With military knowledge, the public especially the younger generations could use such information in normal situations.

"By joining TA, these young people can install better discipline and high self esteem and a strong sense of brotherhood among other reservists," he said.
