Musicians break the record for longest recital Posted: 05 Sep 2011 04:12 AM PDT KUANTAN: A grand assembly of musicians here have successfully broken the Malaysia Book of Records longest instrumental recital record by performing for 33 hours straight. Dubbed the Musicthon 2011, the event organised by the Pahang Culture and Arts Department, Pahang Symphony Orchestra Society (PSOS) and Khoo Academy of Music and Art saw 1,000 musicians performing non-stop from 9am into the wee hours of the morning and on into the afternoon of the second day. The musicians broke the previous record of 28 hours, which was created in 2007 during the same Musicthon event. PSOS chairman Datuk Ti Lian Ker said the event was organised to expose the musicians from all age groups to a live audience. Most of them have never played live in an open environment before. "This recital has really built their confidence and skills in teamwork," he said after the finale concert of the recital held at Berjaya Megamall here recently. Khoo Academy principal Khoo Siow Chuen said the musicians were only allowed a break of 15 seconds in between pieces before resuming play. "Musicians had the chance to play music in the style of wind ensemble, band, jazz and choir in solo or group performances," he said. Among the music pieces performed were Queens Bohemian Rhapsody, theme songs from Totoro, Wau Bulan, Getaran Jiwa, Copacabana and Tchaikovskys Excerptfrom Piano Concerto in Bb minor Op. 23. The event was also co-organised by the SM Sains Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah, SMKSultan Abu Bakar, the Tunas Budaya group and SMK Sultan Abdul Rahman Talib. |
