National flag should be used correctly, says Saifuddin

Posted: 16 Aug 2011 06:50 AM PDT

TEMERLOH: Ethics in using the Jalur Gemilang should be in place to ensure the national flag is not disrespected, said Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah.

He said Malaysians were certainly patriotic but sometimes in their enthusiasm, politeness in waving and displaying the Jalur Gemilang was neglected.

"Consideration must be taken when placing the flag on clothes or books. We must think whether it is appropriate to have writings or images of figures on the flag even though it may be of the leaders of our country. It may not deface the flag but it would seem rather indelicate," said Saifuddin before flagging off the Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang convoy at the Kampung Paya Luas mosque here.

The convoy will head to 11 districts in the state before reaching its final destination at Kampung Tanjung Batu Mosque in Nenasi, Pekan on Aug 20.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak is expected to receive the expedition at its last stop.

The spirit of Malaysians in flying the national flag is already there.

Perhaps it is time for ethics in using the flag to be drawn up to complement that patriotism, said Saifuddin who is also the Temerloh MP.

Intel promoting PC usage in rural areas nationwide

Posted: 16 Aug 2011 06:50 AM PDT

JASIN: Intel Malaysia has launched an intensive campaign to promote personal computer (PC) usage in rural areas nationwide.

The six-month campaign would see an Enter aje! mobile showcase truck travelling to various locations covering 55 towns in 12 states including some 40 schools, 25 community broadband centres, and shopping centres in Malaysia.

Intel Malaysia sales and marketing country manager Prakash Mallya said Intel expects to reach out to over 120,000 people through the campaign.

"Visitors to the mobile showcase truck will be able to discover how PCs can help them in a variety of daily tasks and activities. These include the ability to access news, entertainment and information from the Internet, enhancing learning and education, automate business transactions, including facilitating trade and commerce for small business operators," he said here, recently.

Intel's ecosystem partners such as Toshiba, Lenovo, HP, Acer, Samsung, Asus, Celcom, P1 and YTL Communications would also be geared towards showcasing what practical benefits ICT can deliver to users during the campaign.

Inaugurated at SMK Seri Mahkota in Merlimau here, Prakash noted that research showed that lack of knowledge in utilising information,

communication and technology (ICT) was the key constraint among communities in the rural areas.

Besides Malaysia, he said Intel would also be launching similar campaigns in Indonesia and Vietnam soon.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam lauded the campaign as another initiative that would boost the state's economic growth and ICT adoption.

In addition to the on-ground activity, Prakash added, Intel would also introduce several online contests and activities throughout the campaign period to encourage more participation.

More details can be found at the Enter aje! microsite at http://enteraje.intel.com
