Johor Ruler hosts gathering for 56 Ferrari club members Posted: 20 Jul 2011 01:28 AM PDT MUAR: Sultan Johor Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar hosted a gathering for some 56 International Ferrari Club members here recently. The gathering, which was held Tanjung Emas Marina near the estuary attracted hundreds of Ferrari lovers from Johor, Malacca, Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. The club members began to arrive at the Marina at about 11.30am and the Ruler, who drove the latest Ferrari model GTO R699 arrived at about 12.30pm. A palace official said Sultan Ibrahim received the car on Friday from Singapore and drove it to Muar for the International Ferrari Club gathering. The car, with the maximum speed of 360mph, or 579kmh, could easily go up to 260mph on the North-South Expressway but the Ruler did not go that fast. Club member Collin Cheng from Singapore said it was kind of the Sultan to host the gathering that attracted some 56 members. He said the members, led by the Singapore Ferrari Owners Club president Lee Lung Niew, were honoured when the Sultan drove his new Ferrari to the gathering. Tunku Temenggong of Johor Tunku Idris Iskandar Abdul Rahman Sultan Ibrahim also drove a Ferrari but humbly said he borrowed the car from a friend. After spending about two hours with the International Ferrari Club members, Sultan Ibrahim then led the group out of the marina area and headed back to Johor Baru. Royal Malaysia Police welcomes trainees at passing out parade Posted: 20 Jul 2011 01:26 AM PDT PENGERANG: Some 498 trainees yelled out the police motto: sedia berkhidmat (ready to serve) at their passing out parade under the watchful eyes of their parents and friends. For many, the event was a culmination of their dreams as they finally became members of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) after completing their training at the Tanjung Pengelih naval base here. Former dispatch worker S. Vikram, 22, who won the award for excellence in academics said he wanted to join the police force since he was a child. "I made sure I paid attention during the classes and lectures and I am very happy to have won the award," he said. Another trainee Muhamad Hafiz Muhamad Yatim, who won the award for outdoor training, said a stint at his school's police cadet had motivated him to serve as a policeman. "I have always admired the police for their discipline, teamwork and integrity," he said, adding that he was previously employed as an auxiliary police at Hospital Sultanah Aminah in Johor Baru. The winner of the overall best trainee award was Yanmolbey Yadut, 24, from Kudat in Sabah. "I gave my best in the classroom and during training and certainly never expected to win this award out of 498 trainees in our batch," he said. Lee Hock Hea, 27, who was one of only two Chinese trainees in the lot, said his friends had tried to talk him out of joining the force when he first told them of his intention. "But I am always seeking new challenges to better myself, and want to serve the people," he said. Lee added that although there are few Chinese in the police force, that was not an issue for him as crime fighting is everyone's responsibility. Deputy Home Minister Datuk Wira Abu Seman Yusop officiated the ceremony marking the completion of training for the trainees, who were also the first batch under the Blue Ocean Strategy Programme between PDRM and the military. He advised the budding police officers to be committed, efficient and friendly when serving the people, to show team spirit and not to be individualistic, and to always act in accordance with the law without violating the rights of others.
