Posted: 06 Jun 2011 08:04 PM PDT

KOTA KINABALU: The state Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun sported a big smile and gave a thumbs up sign after alighting from a Mitsubishi Pajero.

"That was an amazing experience," a beaming Masidi said.

He was one of the first few who got a taste of the Mitsubishi 4x4 Dakar Rally Experience over a recent weekend at Alamesra near the city.

The event organised by Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia was to showcase the company's award-winning Triton and Pajero Sport.

Visitors were encouraged to experience the 'Dakar Rally' for the first time in Kota Kinabalu and go on special high speed taxi-rides with two-time Dakar Rally champion, Hiroshi Masuoka from Japan.

Hiroshi Masuoka led the special high speed rides by showcasing the capabilities of the award-winning Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and Triton on a specially designed track.

In 2002, the two-time Dakar Rally champion became the second only Japanese driver in history to win the Dakar Rally with the official Mitsubishi team in a Mitsubishi Pajero/Montero.

Hiroshi took a second successive victory in 2003.

"Mitsubishi Motors offers the best off-road and on-road vehicle control 4WD systems in its class.

Visitors experienced Mitsubishi 4x4 vehicles' good off-road handling, durability and comfort in a thrilling way.

"I am sure they were amazed by the performance of the Triton and Pajero Sport as the vehicle is of normal specification and has not been tuned up.

"On the national level, Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia sold a record 12,204 vehicles nationwide last year.

"This year, we hope to achieve total sales of 13,500 units for overall Mitsubishi vehicles in Malaysia.

"The best seller for Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia in 2010 was the Triton pick-up truck. As Malaysia's most awarded pick-up truck, the Triton found more than 8,000 new owners last year.

"This makes Triton the second most popular truck in Malaysia and it has always proved as a practical and rough work vehicle," said Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia chief executive officer Tetsuya Oda.

At present, there are six Mitsubishi 3S centres in East Malaysia and four more 3S centres are in the pipeline before end of this year.

As part of Mitsubishi's commitment to enhance its genuine spare parts network and availability, as well as to meet the growing market demand in East Malaysia, Mitsubishi owners can now visit its new spare parts outlets, Standard Spare Parts Sdn Bhd in Kota Kinabalu and Kuching.

"In the Dakar history, Mitsubishi Motors is the most successful manufacturer. It has won the World's Toughest Race for a record of 12 times, with seven of those victories achieved back-to-back.

"An exciting 25 years experience in rally has certainly given Mitsubishi Motors a winning edge. Mitsubishi vehicles are proven to be reliable as its track record is reflected in the performance of its vehicles," said Hiroshi.

Bo Tiza is ‘queen’ for a year

Posted: 06 Jun 2011 08:03 PM PDT

KOTA KINABALU: A new daughter of Kinoingan (the creator) will reign for a year as Sabah's Harvest Queen.

Bo Tiza Arthur Disimon of Penampang was crowned Unduk Ngadau or Harvest Queen at the climax of the state-level Kaamatan celebrations at the Hongkod Koisaan hall in Penampang on May 31.

In Kadazan, God is referred to as Kinoingan and according to legend, Huminodun, the daughter of Kinoingan and Suminondu was sacrificed and from her body, crops of food sprouted to enable mankind to survive in a famine.

Hence at each Kaamatan or Harvest Festival celebration, a Harvest Queen (Unduk Ngadau) is chosen to remember and pay tribute to Huminodun.

The crowning of Bo Tiza amid cheers of the thousands at the hall brought to a close the colourful festivities that kicked off with a traditional sports carnival the day before.

Setting the tone was Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman who took part in a tug of war with other leaders including deputy chief minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan, the Huguan Siou (Kadazandusun paramount leader) and state assembly speaker Datuk Salleh Tun Said.

The Harvest Festival celebrations at Penampang, popularly considered the homeground of the Kadazandusun community, was as vibrant as it could be.

With the theme 'Cultural Understanding – The Way Forward', visitors caught a glimpse of Sabah's melting pot of culture and tradition – from the food to the dance and costumes – a result of the more than 32 ethnic groups that call the state home.

The organiser, the Kadazandusun Murut Cultural Association (KDCA) took the trouble to improve existing facilities for this year's event with the KDCA Cultural Village being the notable difference, to the delight of many.

This will not only serve as an eye opener for guests at the celebrations but also functions as a tool for the local community to draw tourists all year long.
