Perseverance yields success

A seven-year wait ended up with a sweet triumph over uncertainty for farmer.

WONG Chun Keat has every reason to be proud of his 24ha farm in mukim Sertik near Karak, Pahang.

He is one of the very few vegetable producers in the state who is officially recognised by the Agrilculture and Agro-based Industry Ministry with a Good Agricultural Practise (GAP) certification.

Attributing his success to sheer determination and perseverance, the 43-year-old said he first submitted an application to the ministry in 2002 for the certification, but was rejected.

Bowling event to strengthen ties

KUANTAN: The Pahang Media Club members and Universiti Malaysia Pahang staff held a friendly bowling tournament at Kuantan Plaza here recently.

Some 80 participants formed 20 groups and showed off their bowling skills at the event themed '1UMP, 1Media, 1Strike'.

The event was held for the fourth time and was also aimed at enhancing better ties between the university and media.

Also present were UMP vice chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Daing NasirIbrahim and PMC president Nik Naizi Husin.

Daing Nasir said he hoped the game would continue to strengthen the good ties already developed between both parties.

Club president Nik Naizi said the Pahang media would always support the UMP in organising activities with mutual benefits.

At the tournament Utusan Malaysia's Hanapi Mat Ripin won the men's individual category while RTM's Norjihan Yahaya took home the women's individual trophy.
