Thousands attend three-day youth rally in KL

Posted: 07 Jun 2011 06:13 AM PDT

THOUSANDS of Malaysian youth attended a three-day festival focusing on arts and entertainment.

Themed Unity Through Independence, the Youthnity Festival 2011 held at the Tasik Titiwangsa was organised by the Youth on Unity (YOU) and 1 Malaysian Youth Entrepreneurs Club (1MYEC).

"While youth today are very talented, many of these talents are untapped due to lack of opportunities," said festival chairman Mohd Nazifuddin Mohd Najib, who is also the YOU chairman.

Besides concerts by Malaysian artistes like Awie, Ella, and several Akademi Fantasia students, there were also performances by indie bands, dance performances and a photography exhibition.

The festival was launched by Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Datuk Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin last Wednesday night.

Nazifuddin said the festival was their first event and they would be looking at organising others events in the future.

"We are hoping to get more members on board during this event so that we can get them involved in our future activities," said Nazifuddin.

Raja Nong Chik said the ministry would continue to support youth programmes so that they can showcase their talents, not only in big cities but also in smaller towns.
