In high spirits with Korean boyband 2AM

South Korean boyband 2AM serenaded fans at their showcase.

THE heavy downpour last Saturday evening may have left some soaked to the bone but it did not dampen the enthusiasm showed by every member of the Malaysian I Am (2AM fan club) who turned out for the 2AM showcase in Kuala Lumpur.

A screaming crowd of mostly teenage girls armed with banners and placards enthusiastically greeted the South Korean pop act when they made their entrance and wowed fans with their soaring vocals and fun persona.

Looking fresh in crisp white suits with black ties and black shoes, 2AM went on to serenade fans with half a dozen of their hit songs from various releases: Never Let You Go, Confessions Of A Friend, You Wouldn't Answer My Calls, I Did Wrong, Like Crazy and their debut number This Song.

Known for their ballads, 2AM debuted in 2008 as one of two sub-groups that branched out of the 11-member boyband One Day. The other group debuted as dance pop act 2PM.

The four-member group comprises Jinwoon, 20; Jo Kwon, 21; Seulong, 24; and Changmin, 25. They have since released two single albums (This Song, 2008 and Time For Confession, 2009), two mini-albums (Never Let You Go, 2010 and I Did Wrong, 2010) and a full-length album Saint O'Clock (2010).

During intervals between delivering their songs, the guys also played games with lucky fans who won prizes like 2AM autographed posters, DiGi goodie bags, teddy bears and most precious of all, warm bear hugs from the boys themselves.

There was also a surprise birthday celebration for three of the members who were born in May: Changmin (May 1), Jinwoon (May 2) and Seulong (May 11). Fans presented them with individual gifts and a colourful layered jelly birthday cake that was topped with a replica of the Petronas twin towers while demonstrating their love by singing Happy Birthday in Korean, English and Malay.

The boys, who staged their first concert in Seoul late last year, are set to include further stops in Thailand, the Philippines, Taiwan, Indonesia, Hong Kong, China, and Singapore, as part of their tour.

Opening 2AM's showcase that day were music students from Bentley Music Auditorium, who performed an instrumental medley of the group's popular songs.

> DiGi Live Kpop 2AM Showcase, staged at Wisma MCA in Kuala Lumpur last Saturday, was organised by DiGi and Universal Music Malaysia.
